General Information:
Job title: Operating Room Housekeeper
Schedules Available: Full-time, 80 hours per pay period; Monday - Friday
Weekend rotation: No Weekends
Holiday rotation: No Holidays
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for ensuring that the OR and associated areas are kept in impeccable condition to uphold patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance. The Operating Room Housekeeper works closely with surgical team and support staff to provide a clean and sterile environment conducive to optimal patient care.
Position Responsibilities:
- Operating Room areas and equipment that are not terminally cleaned should be cleaned according to an established schedule.
- Assist with and/or provides for patient transfer/activity and intra-facility transportation, as directed.
- Assists in the orientation of new staff.
- Perform thorough cleaning and disinfection of operating rooms, surgical suites, SPD and associated areas according to established protocols and schedules.
- Monitor and replenish stock levels of cleaning supplies, disinfectants, and other necessary items in the OR.
- Collaborate with surgical staff to ensure timely turnover of operating rooms between procedures, minimizing downtime and optimizing efficiency.
- Adhere to infection control practices, including proper hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and isolation procedures.
- Report any maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards to OR Lead RN/Surgery Director for prompt resolution.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times.
- Follow established policies and procedures for environmental services, including those related to hazardous materials handling, chemical usage, and waste management.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1+ years of related work experience preferred.
- BLS recommended
- Participate in training sessions and educational programs related to infection prevention, cleaning techniques, and safety protocols.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Physical strength and dexterity to operate necessary machinery and perform all required cleaning duties.
- Ability to read any special instructions and to understand labels on cleaning products.
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
