Job Description:

Are you looking for a new position where you can impact educational assessments through collaboration? The Nebraska Department of Education is looking for a Community Engagement Specialist to coordinate strategic partnerships, stakeholder communication, and engagement in support of the Coherence and Alignment for Educators and Families (CAEF) statewide assessment grant. The team is looking for candidates with excellent communication and relationship building skills. Candidates who are ambitious and innovative are ideal to facilitate engagement activities!

The Coherence and Alignment for Educators and Families (CAEF) statewide assessment grant will enrich and extend instructional utility of Nebraska’s existing statewide assessment system by engaging data users (i.e., educators and families) to provide solutions for how assessment data can be more easily used to support instruction. This includes analyzing the assessment system design, developing new tools, and facilitating training to educators and families on how to use assessment data.

This position is fixed term, with an end date of September 30, 2028. Any potential extensions are subject to the continuation and availability of funding.

Office Location: This position is assigned to our office located at 84th & O St, Lincoln, NE.

Pay Grade 7: $64,436.73/year

This rate is based upon available budget funds; any offer will be made at this rate.

Essential Functions

  • Establishes and fosters strategic partnerships with school districts, educators, families, and other stakeholders, and implements a comprehensive communication strategy to engage stakeholders throughout the project.
  • Collaborates with pilot districts to ensure all activities are aligned to project goals and timelines, collect feedback from stakeholders to improve assessment tools, and provide customer service to resolve any conflicts.
  • Plans and facilitates workshops, focus groups, informational sessions, or other engagement activities.
  • Recruits additional pilot districts for year two of the CAEF project, including identifying potential districts, provide project requirements, and manage onboarding.
  • Develops and distributes a variety of informational materials to communicate project goals, timelines, and expectations.
  • Maintains regular & reliable attendance, possesses a valid driver’s license and travels independently, and works in a variety of settings.

Working Conditions and Travel:

This position requires approximately 80% of work time spent in an office environment; the remaining 20% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as schools, educational service units, and other service agencies. There is also approximately two days of overnight travel per month.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in the field of education or related subject area, one year of successful preK-12 teaching or school administration experience in an approved or accredited Nebraska school or equivalent teaching or school administration experience in another state or country, and eligible for/possess a current Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per §79-807.

NOTE: A Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per 92 NAC 21 must be possessed by the time the candidate begins employment at the Nebraska Department of Education and an active certificate maintained while in the Education Specialist position.

Substitution: Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent Master of Arts in Teaching per 92 NAC 21, three years of successful preK-12 teaching or school administration experience in an approved or accredited Nebraska school or equivalent teaching or school administration experience in another state or country, and eligible for/possess a current Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per §79- 807.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Education with at least two years of experience in PreK-12 teaching or administrative experience, including experience as a specialist or coordinator leading programs or special projects. Experience facilitating professional development experiences for educators.
