About the role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Consultant to design, implement, support, and continuously improve engineering data management solutions across CAD, PDM, and PLM ecosystems. This role bridges Technical consulting with hands-on technical development, driving CAD integrations, engineering data migrations, and enterprise digital transformation initiatives.
You will collaborate with engineering teams, business stakeholders, solution architects, and technical leads to gather requirements, define solution designs, develop migration utilities, execute data migrations, lead testing activities, and ensure the successful deployment of PLM and engineering data solutions.
The Technical Consultant will be a member of our Engineering Application team based in Chennai. Apply project management expertise to identify and develop process improvements, resolve issues, and optimize cost savings and efficiencies. The consultant is expected to provide counsel and leadership to his/her respective area to maximize efficiency while protecting the integrity of the overall solution.
About the department
Reporting to our Head of Engineering Application Team, you will join a team of highly skilled PLM CAD and CAE applications team. You will have 70 dedicated IT colleagues located around the world, with the majority working out of Chennai, India. Our team is responsible for critical and core business applications in the organization, supporting FLSmidth’s 7000 global employees with digital solutions. Your primary stakeholders will be Management in Business and IT Project managers and our service providers.

Technical Consultant – CAD Integration, PLM & Data Migration

Technical Consulting & Business Analysis
Experienced Technical Consultant with expertise in CAD/PLM solutions, specializing in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, and ENOVIA integration. Skilled in implementing, configuring, and supporting engineering design environments, integrating CAD applications with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, and streamlining product development processes. Proven ability to work with cross-functional engineering teams, understand business requirements, and deliver scalable technical solutions that improve productivity, collaboration, and data management.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement, configure, and support CAD applications including SolidWorks, CATIA, Autodesk Inventor, and AutoCAD.
- Design and deploy ENOVIA PLM integration with multiple CAD platforms.
- Configure CAD connectors, document management, and engineering change management workflows.
- Install, upgrade, and maintain CAD and PLM software in enterprise environments.
- Develop and maintain CAD standards, templates, libraries, and drawing formats.
- Troubleshoot CAD and PLM integration issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Manage CAD file synchronization, metadata mapping, revision control, and lifecycle management.
- Collaborate with engineering, product development, manufacturing, and IT teams to optimize design processes.
- Perform system testing, validation, and user acceptance testing (UAT) for CAD/PLM implementations.
- Support migration of legacy CAD data into ENOVIA.
- Develop automation scripts and utilities where applicable to improve engineering efficiency.
- Prepare technical documentation, implementation guides, and standard operating procedures.
- Conduct user training sessions and provide post-implementation support.
- Participate in solution design, technical workshops, and customer requirement analysis.
- Coordinate with software vendors and internal teams for issue resolution and enhancements.
ENOVIA PLM & PDM Integration
- Lead integration between CAD tools and ENOVIA PLM, defining and validating business rules across metadata mapping, object mapping, revision synchronization, lifecycle management, document relationships, and BOM synchronization
- Support PDM integrations with SOLIDWORKS PDM and Autodesk Vault
- Collaborate with other technical teams to troubleshoot integration issues and optimize system performance
- Support engineering applications (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor) through custom integrations, automation, metadata synchronization, BOM transfers, workflow automation, and bulk update utilities
CAD API & Integration Development
Develop and support integration solutions across:
- AutoCAD – .NET API, ObjectARX, AutoLISP
- SolidWorks – API, Add-ins, SOLIDWORKS PDM API
- Autodesk Inventor – Inventor API, iLogic, Vault API
- ENOVIA – MQL, Java APIs, REST APIs, Web Services, 3DEXPERIENCE APIs
- Technologies – .NET, SOAP/XML/JSON, ETL Tools, Scripting & Automation
Data Migration – Planning, Development & Execution
- Support migration scoping workshops; assess source and target systems; define scope, success criteria, risks, and execution strategies
- Define and document object, metadata, lifecycle, revision, and relationship mappings; prepare transformation specifications
- Develop ETL scripts, data extraction/transformation/loading processes, validation scripts, and reconciliation reports
- Execute migration batches and rehearsals; perform data cleansing and enrichment; coordinate cutover and deployment activities
Defect Management
- Analyse, troubleshooting, and resolve defects across Unit Testing, SIT, UAT, and Production Validation phases
- Conduct root cause analysis; implement fixes; maintain defect logs and resolution reports
Production Support & Continuous Improvement
- Support post-go-live stabilization; troubleshoot production issues; monitor integration health and system performance
- Recommend process and system improvements; participate in future enhancement initiatives
Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in CAD, PDM, and PLM environments
- Proven experience integrating AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Autodesk Inventor with ENOVIA PLM
- Hands-on development of CAD API and PLM integration solutions
- Demonstrated leadership of engineering data migration projects, including script development and execution
- Strong background in SIT/UAT support, defect resolution, and production deployments
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills
