Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director for the Integrated Business Operations (IBO) for the Child Study Center and the departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry, the Director, Finance provides strategic and operational financial leadership in support of these departments and their organizational objectives. This role oversees financial planning, reporting, budgeting, financial transactions, compensation administration, and workforce financial management while ensuring compliance with institutional policies and internal controls. The Director manages multiple teams of financial professionals, providing leadership, strategic direction, guidance, and oversight to ensure effective provision of financial services.  The Director serves as a key advisor to department leadership and the Senior Director on financial performance, faculty and staff compensation planning, and long-range business strategy, and partners with operational teams to support data-driven decision-making and process improvement initiatives. As a member of the IBO leadership team, the Director is a strategic and collaborative partner and works across business operation functions to design strategies for process improvement, effective delivery of services, and identifying solutions to complex operational challenges.

Required Skills and Abilities

1. Demonstrated expertise in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, financial reporting and analysis, compensation administration, labor planning, internal controls, and the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic recommendations.

2.  Strong technical and analytical skills with experience using financial and payroll systems and reporting tools, coupled with exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

3.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly present complex financial information to leadership and non-financial stakeholders, build collaborative relationships, and partner effectively across departments.

4.  Proven leadership and management experience, including developing high-performing teams, performance management, leading through change, promoting collaboration and employee engagement, and exercising sound judgment while maintaining confidentiality with sensitive financial and personnel information.

5.  Knowledge of finance operations within complex organizations, preferably in an academic medical center, healthcare, higher education, or similarly complex institutional environment.


Preferred Skills and Abilities

1. Experience with Workday, Epic, YBT or similar enterprise platforms preferred

2. Advanced degree in business or finance (CPA, MBA, etc.) preferred.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Through a collaborative process, directs restricted funds activity. 2. Influences and guides the direction of the process; recommends solutions appropriate to the goals of the University, the needs of the schools, and departments. 3. Develops, recommends, and implements policies for the financial department. 4. Coordinates decision-making on these issues at the officer level. 5. Participates in the development of the University’s annual and long range plans; develops, formulates and administers policies pertaining to the department. 6. Ensures the allocation of processes for the departments are in compliance with University policies and guidelines. 7. Supervises a staff of exempt employees. 8. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in related field and six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
