Company Description
Our client is an early-stage, venture-backed startup building advanced AI technology designed to improve transparency and trust in digital content. Their platform helps organizations identify AI-generated material and integrate detection capabilities directly into the systems people use every day.
The company is led by experienced researchers and engineers and has already built a widely used product with hundreds of thousands of users. As the company scales, the team is focused on expanding integrations with key platforms in education, publishing, and professional workflows to bring their technology directly to end users.
This is a rare opportunity to join a small, highly technical team where engineers have significant ownership over both product direction and technical architecture. The work directly impacts how organizations detect and manage AI-generated content across critical systems.
What You Will Do
-
Design and build integrations that embed AI detection capabilities directly into third-party platforms.
-
Own integrations end-to-end, including scoping, architecture, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
-
Develop integrations with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, and Brightspace using standards like LTI and REST APIs.
-
Expand integration coverage into additional ecosystems such as applicant tracking systems (ATS), publishing platforms, and trust & safety workflows.
-
Work within an existing stack that includes Python, Django, and React while designing new patterns to support integration infrastructure.
-
Investigate and troubleshoot complex integration issues across multiple systems, including legacy or poorly documented platforms.
-
Collaborate with external platform providers to obtain sandbox access, manage integration requirements, and support marketplace or app listing approvals.
-
Build reliable, well-tested services and maintain clear technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
-
Provide ongoing support for integration deployments and resolve issues across system boundaries.
Ideal Candidate Background
-
2–5 years of experience as a backend or full-stack software engineer.
-
Strong backend engineering experience with Python and frameworks such as Django.
-
Demonstrated experience building integrations with third-party platforms.
-
Experience working with APIs (REST, GraphQL) and authentication systems such as SSO or SCIM.
-
Strong debugging skills and the ability to trace issues across distributed systems.
-
Comfortable working with ambiguous requirements, legacy systems, or incomplete documentation.
-
Experience building production systems from scratch and taking ownership of projects end-to-end.
-
Ability to clearly document technical decisions and communicate constraints to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Interest in working in a fast-moving early-stage startup environment with significant ownership.
Preferred
-
Experience integrating with LMS platforms such as Canvas, Blackboard, or Brightspace.

Familiarity with standards such as LTI 1.3 / LTI Advantage.
-
Background in EdTech, developer platforms, or enterprise integrations.
-
Contributions to open-source projects or a strong portfolio of personal projects.
-
Experience working with complex or legacy systems and migrations.
-
Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
Compensation and Benefits
-
Competitive base salary of $140,000 – $180,000, depending on experience.
-
Equity participation in a high-growth early-stage startup.
-
Visa sponsorship and H1B transfers may be available.
-
Opportunity to work closely with a small, highly technical founding team.
-
High ownership and influence over product and technical direction.
-
Exposure to complex technical challenges at the intersection of AI, software infrastructure, and real-world platforms.
If you are a resourceful engineer who enjoys solving challenging integration problems and building systems that connect complex platforms, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working with a small team of experienced builders.
