Component Engineer

Job Description:

Responsibilities·  

• Support Design Engineering in identification and qualification of Electronics, electrical and mechanical components.
• Must have critical thinking skills, understanding parts lists, BOM's, electronic categories, components and attributes.
•  Review, analyse and optimize Bills of Materials (BOM's) down to manufacturer part level.
• Initiate and lead the efforts to identify and qualify second sources for material availability, cost reduction and reliability improvement purposes.

• Understand component technology roadmaps/trends and present them to Design Engineering.
• Develop and execute component evaluation, acceptance and qualification test plans.
• Identify critical and high-risk components in products and proactively identify and drive solutions to resolve End-of-life (EOL).
• Identify and mitigate risks related to counterfeit electronic components.
• Work with approved suppliers and authorized distributors to ensure component authenticity.
• Communicate to component manufacturers regarding component failures.
• Ensure components are compliant to necessary environmental and safety standards, e.g. RoHS, REACH, UL, CE, CSA, Conflict Minerals, etc.
• Review and address Product Change Notices (PCN's) from component manufacturers along tracking component lifecycles.
•  Provide input to new designs to improve product reliability.
• The Material / Component Engineering will serve as a technical resource to Procurement and Quality.
• Support root cause analysis activities for field/component failures in coordination with Quality and Design teams.
• Provide technically compliant alternate solutions for MIL, Medical, Aerospace, and industrial-grade components.
• Review connector requirements and recommend compatible accessories and associated components.
• Maintain updates to Component Supplier management tool and workflows.
• Familiarity with IPC standards, JEDEC standards, and MIL specifications is preferred.
• Promote coordination between Team members toward recommended solution and execution.
