Job Title: Rapid Spectroscopy Senior Scientist.

Segment: Mars Snacking

Location: Veghel, Netherlands

Contract type: Permanent. Full time. Onsite.

Every day, Mars, Incorporated factories takes thousands of decisions that are informed by rapid spectroscopy data, some of which have the potential to have a significant consequence for our brands and business.

The rapid spectroscopy program delivers over 10 million analysis results per annum steering production at 90% of Mars plants, as well as assessing raw material quality before use. The Rapid Spectroscopy Senior Scientist is part of a team of technology experts responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the rapid spectroscopy calibration portfolio for raw materials, intermediates and finished products across all Segments, and the governance of the instrument network through performance metrics.

What are we looking for?

  • You hold a BSc or Master degree in science.
  • You have a proven record of Near Infrared Spectroscopy technology experience withing chemometrics, spectroscopy or statistical analysis fields. Experience in NIR technology or other rapid spectroscopy technologies is preferable.
  • You have a minimum 2 years of experience working in an industrial or academic laboratory environment on spectroscopy.
  • You are a great team player with strong customer focus.
  • You can easily adapt to the changing priorities.
  • You are fluent in English.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Application & Procedure Development: create, validate, and deploy new spectroscopy application for quality control at all stages (inbound materials, in-process and finished goods). This includes codifying the procedures for their use. Continuously improve rapid spectroscopy governance processes.
  • Project Management: Execute complex development projects focused on new chemometric techniques, identifying new hardware/software, and improving support processes.
  • Ensure effective communication with client groups of significant changes due to Rapid Spectroscopy calibration model updates to the business preventing disruption of local operations.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of all global key network performance metrics and potentially communicate agreed metric to the Leadership Teams.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay current with the latest advancements in spectroscopy by reviewing scientific literature and attending conferences.
  • Partnering with central and regional laboratory Rapid Spectrology community to provide processes that ensure timely rapid spectroscopy support for new instrument installation and troubleshooting.
  • Consult on customer requests about rapid spectroscopy current and future capability, maintaining a high level of customer focus and ensure that projects are delivered on-plan, on-time, and on-budget.
