About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician to join our team, responsible for the installation, programming, servicing, and troubleshooting of building automation and control systems across commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities throughout the Greater Toronto Area. This role suits a hands-on technician with strong field experience who takes pride in keeping building systems running efficiently and reliably.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, wire, and configure DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, and other BAS field devices
- Program and modify control logic and sequences of operation for HVAC and building systems
- Perform system startup, testing, calibration, and commissioning of building automation equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot BAS hardware, software, and network issues on-site and remotely
- Respond to service calls and perform preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime
- Configure graphics, alarms, trends, and schedules within BAS front-end software
- Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings and specifications
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, contractors, and building operators on installations and retrofits
- Provide on-site technical support, troubleshooting, and training to building operations staff and clients
- Maintain accurate service records, as-built documentation, and point-to-point checklists
- Travel to job sites across the GTA for installations, service calls, and client support
- Ensure work complies with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations (ESA, CSA, etc.)
- Support energy efficiency initiatives and system optimization efforts
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience installing, programming, or servicing building automation systems
- College diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, HVAC Controls, or related field (or equivalent industry experience)
- Practical experience with one or more major BAS platforms (e.g., Niagara N4/Tridium, Distech Controls, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, Honeywell, Delta Controls, Schneider Electric)
- Solid understanding of HVAC systems, electrical/mechanical building systems, and control fundamentals
- Working knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LON, or other building automation communication protocols
- Comfortable working with low-voltage wiring, panel installation, and field device troubleshooting
- Valid G driver's license and willingness to travel within the GTA as required
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings and control schematics
- Comfortable working at heights, in mechanical rooms, and on ladders/lifts as needed
Preferred / Assets:
- Niagara N4 Certification or equivalent platform certification
- Electrical license (309A or equivalent) an asset
- Experience with energy management systems or fault detection & diagnostics (FDD)
- Familiarity with basic IT networking as it relates to BAS (IP addressing, VLANs)
- Experience working on retrofit or new construction projects
