Description

This position is for the Transitional Living Facility and under the direction of the charge nurse and LPN, monitors the patient's physical and emotional well-being and reports unusual behavior or physical ailments to the appropriate staff. Provides nursing, psychiatric and personal care to mentally ill forensic patients. Encourages residents to develop work skills and to participate in social, recreational and other therapeutic activities that enhance interpersonal skills and develop social and therapeutic relationships. Also supervises residents on approved outings, Responsible for documenting information regarding patient care and behavior. Performs related duties as required. Mandatory overtime is an essential function of this position. Applicants selected must successfully complete a chemical urinalysis and a breath analysis drug screening test. All employees shall be subject to drug and alcohol testing as for probable cause as set forth in agency & bureau policies. Selected applicants must successfully complete a background check. This is a tobacco free campus.

Education: 

High school diploma or the equivalent.

Experience: 

Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience in the care, treatment, and development of the physically or mentally ill.

Internal Applicants Only:

One (1) year of full-time or part-time experience as a Patient Monitor or Patient Care Technician may substitute for the required education and experience.

Sharpe, Jr. Hospital holds accreditation from The Joint Commission and certification by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). The hospital offers a wide range of services to patients either committed to the hospital through civil commitment or, in the case of forensic patients, ordered through the judicial system. Through ongoing collaboration with West Virginia University’s Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry, a variety of medical and clinical professionals partner with the hospital’s own staff to work diligently with patients to achieve a smooth transition back to the community after discharge.
