Responsibilities
The Principal Engineer Microsoft Services is a senior technical leader responsible for the architecture, engineering, implementation, and operational excellence of the organization's Microsoft technology ecosystem. This role provides strategic direction, establishes enterprise standards, and lead the design and delivery of highly available, secure, scalable, and cloud-first Microsoft solutions supporting business-critical applications and infrastructure. The Principal Engineer serves as the highest-level technical advisor for Microsoft technologies, partnering closely with Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Cloud Operations, Application Development, and business stakeholders to drive modernization initiatives and digital transformation.
This position requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, particularly when addressing complex or business-critical matters. The role demands sound judgment, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to evaluate alternatives, assess risks, and make well-informed decisions. The successful candidate will effectively prioritize competing responsibilities, manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, and consistently deliver high-quality results within established timelines.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in enterprise IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, or Microsoft platform administration.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise Microsoft technologies, including Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, Intune, and Exchange Online.
- Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Azure architecture, cloud migration, identity and access management, endpoint management, and enterprise security best practices.
- Extensive experience with PowerShell scripting, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and cloud-native deployment methodologies.
- Experience developing enterprise architecture standards, technical roadmaps, governance frameworks, and engineering best practices.
- Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives, troubleshoot critical production issues, and serve as the highest-level technical escalation resource.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across technical and business teams.
- Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize work, exercise sound judgment, manage multiple competing priorities, and consistently deliver high-quality results with minimal supervision.
- Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator Expert, Cybersecurity Architect Expert)
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree preferred.
- Industry certifications such as ITIL or CISSP are highly desirable.
- Experience working in regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, or government is preferred.

Benefits may vary based on employment status, i.e. full-time, part-time, per diem or temporary. A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $85,841.60 to $160,680.00 on an annualized basis. The compensation estimate noted above is specific to California and has not been adjusted for any other geographic location. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
