Job Purpose:

As a Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for the proactive maintenance, diagnostic testing, and repair of our manufacturing facility’s mobile and heavy equipment fleet. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, your primary focus is keeping our operations moving safely and efficiently by minimizing downtime on forklifts, small trucks, heavy-duty trucks, and industrial cranes.

Also responsible for managing maintenance on shop machinery and equipment. Mechanics are expected to furnish their basic tools like wrenches, pliers, sockets, screwdrivers, etc. Sea Box will provide larger, specialized equipment that requires a significant investment and may not be practical for individual ownership.

Responsibilities: 

  • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct scheduled inspections, fluid changes, lubrications, and safety checks on forklifts, cranes, and transport trucks to manufacturer and OSHA standards.
  • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Use advanced computerized diagnostic tools and multimeters to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults.
  • Repairs & Overhauls: Disassemble, repair, and reassemble heavy equipment components, including engines, transmissions, brake systems, steering mechanisms, and hoisting gears.
  • Crane Specifics: Inspect, adjust, and repair wire ropes, sheaves, limit switches, and hydraulic systems specific to overhead and mobile industrial cranes.
  • Record Keeping: Accurately log maintenance activities, parts usage, and repair times 
  • Compliance & Safety: Maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace and ensure all repairs adhere to federal, state, and internal safety regulations.

Specific Technical Skills:

  • Strong background in reading and interpreting electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Proficiency with diesel/gas engines, drivelines, and mobile equipment electrical systems.
  • Accident prevention – actively identify, correct and/or report safety hazards to prevent accidents.
  •  Actively identify and pursue cost reduction and efficiency/profit improvement opportunities.
  •  Support the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and the Sea Box Quality Policy calling for self-inspection of your work product.
  •  Maintain Doosan and Hyster fork trucks, including preventative maintenance.
  •  Maintain air compressors, including preventative maintenance.
  •  Repair and maintain paint pumps, rivet guns and shop equipment.
  •  Work collaboratively with shop personnel to maintain building and equipment items.
  •  Lifting production objects of up to 50lbs.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned.
  •  Must be able to fulfill essential job function in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of a trade or technical school program (Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Equipment Technology) is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 3–7 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty trucks, forklifts, or cranes in an industrial, manufacturing, or fleet setting.
  •  Must be able to fulfill essential job function in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.

Employees are eligible for most benefits on the 1st of the month following date of hire. 

Hourly Rate Range: $32.00/hr. - $35.00/hr.
