Pay Range:

$30.70 - $46.05

Major Responsibilities: Drives financial analysis and cost savings opportunities 1)Responsible for leading a portfolio of initiatives that will result in the identification and implementation of cost reduction opportunities and increased operational efficiencies in the Surgical Services Department 2)Oversee support activities, including billing, budget preparation, and MIS management for each cost center; is responsible for ensuring cost assignments are within budget; and will assist each manager with variance analysis and budget preparation. 3)Responsible for new equipment justification including contributions to proformas and pricing strategies 4)Oversee the OR information system, including the scheduling system, applications, and integration into the hospital-wide MIS, assigned personnel, and further enhancements of the system. 5)Assist in analysis of operational budget variances. Review & prepare monthly financial reports for accuracy and take corrective action to rectify discrepancies. 6)Utilizes data analytics to recommend cost savings opportunities at the surgeon, process, and/or case level. 7)Participates in value analysis team activities as the local, regional and system levels. 8)Participates in value analysis team activities as the local, regional and system levels Influences surgeons towards compliance with primary approved vendors and identify substitutes that are acceptable to surgeon by working with team leads and supply chain to reduce cost per case 9)Works with vendors in returning or exchanging high cost, low volume inventory/equipment and participates in annual and adjustments to OR inventory processes. 10)Oversees Graft Tracker logs for accuracy and works with clinical staff to manage documentation for high dollar value tissues/grafts/implants etc. Manages, develops, implements and evaluates vendor support and instrumentation systems of care for all specialties in the OR, ESS, and SPD to facilitate quality patient care. 7)Reviews future cases schedules for appropriate requests, invoicing, and to ensure that the appropriate trays, equipment, implants, and supplies are available including reviewing surgeon comments on reservation for specialty needs and proactively inquiring about possible products that may be needed 3)Oversees accurate implementations for new equipment and instrumentation coordinating surgeon, team leader, vendor, preference cards and pick lists interfaces to ensure standardization for quality and safety optimization and manages equipment trials and feedback. 4)Collaborates with the Surgery Leadership Team to resolve interdisciplinary conflicts related to vendor activities in a complex and rapidly changing environment. 5)Assures intra-operative compliance with regulatory agencies is met in collaboration with the Executive Director of Perioperative Services, Clinical Manager, and ACMs. 6)Acts as a clinical resource to advise the perioperative team related to vendor support, equipment/instrumentation options, and cost implications for decisions needed. 1)Facilitates and supports quality initiatives by working with surgical services teams to develop a continuous quality improvement program to ensure a safe patient care environment and assesses outcomes of new process and projects 2)Ensures compliance with regulatory bodies (DNV, IDPH, CDPH, OSHA, etc). 8)Daily schedule review with charge nurses to ensure that the surgeons have what they need for next day’s cases (specialty items, rep support, arranging loaner equipment, factoring in the impact of turnover time for trays and the number of trays needed for cases etc.) 9)Problem solve and borrow equipment/supplies from both within and outside the Advocate system via networking contacts at other hospitals and/or vendor contacts and arrange delivery. 10)Ensures Clinical Engineering review, and surgeon/team lead communication for all incoming equipment. Manages vendor relations on behalf of the hospital and surgeons. 2)Fosters a collaborative relationship with Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and vendors to clarify instrumentation needs including special instrumentation needs including special instructions for care/handling/cleaning/sterilization for assigned specialty services as needed using the Casecheck system to track and maintain SPD trays / OR specialty supplies / vendor support for cases with updates processed as needed for schedule changes. 3)Serves as primary vendor resource for systems e.g. Casecheck, Lawson, Rep Tracks, Graft Tracker and other surgery-based software programs. 4)Provides expertise related to ordering specialty and/or one-off items relating to IT, office supplies, OR, PACU, ESS and SPD including acquiring supplies as needed for SPD. 5)Communicate and enforce Vendor policy. Verify appropriate vendors are in the OR and not soliciting other physicians. Facilitates Rep Tracks compliance and manages corrective actions as appropriate to facility standards 6)Manages scrub access and locker room management for surgeons/vendors/staff 7)Manage instrumentation and equipment recalls and in accordance with organizational processes and regulatory standards 8)Partners with Surgical Team Leaders to maintain compliance with conforming products when evaluating new products. 9)Serves as resource to Anesthesia techs. 10)Assists with processes related to cooling vests, lead apron management, and other staff related equipment as assigned. 1)Works closely with the Purchasing and Receiving Department ensuring orders and deliveries and follows up with vendors to ensure timely delivery. Promotes and supports an environment that is conducive to staff growth, development and autonomy 1)Defines and implements service-specific orientation and ongoing educational programs in conjunction with Clinical Managers, Assistant Clinical Managers and Educator which augments the intra-operative orientation classes. 2)Collaborates with OR scheduler, Inventory Coordinator, OR manager and Scheduling Coordinator to assure appropriate vendors or outside representatives or proctoring physicians, observers adhere to OR/Advocate polies and procedures. 3)Responsible for mentoring and coaching team members including future leaders for the team focusing on the organization’s and the department’s key result areas. 4)Develop a team member to be a resource to provide coverage when on vacation. 5)Follows up with team members on any safety issues and communicate to the leadership team. 6)Leads and participates in unit-based process improvement projects. 7)Serves as a role model of professional behavior, supports open communication, and actively participates in staff meetings. 8)Utilizes appropriate departmental planning, communication, coaching and mentoring skills to support the goals of high associate retention rates. 9)Actively participates in hospital committees and projects, delegates assignments appropriately. 10)Celebrates accomplishments of the team and recognizes achievements of individual associates. Contributes to growth goals for surgical services 2)Plans, develops and assists implementing new Surgical Service programs and services and contributes to financial analysis. 3)Assists in planning for new technology procurements; collects data through external databases, does competitive analysis and projects volumes with quality and fiscal impact. 5)Participates in the development of strategic capital, assists with formulation of proformas for large scale purchases. 6)Manages department products, equipment and supply committee. 1)Supports Strategic Planning. 4)Works with Surgical Services Director, SS Managers, & Business/Finance Development on target product line initiatives. Education/Experience Required: Bachelors Degree or equivalent experiencing 3 years’ operating room clinical experience or 3 years’ experience materials management for surgical services. Preferred 3-5 years operations experience, ie., business development, budgetary, clinical or materials management. Surgical Services experience preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Basic PC skills with knowledge of information systems that support the clinical EMR. Background in providing analysis of monthly financial reports within a complex clinical area (surgery, materials management), etc. Team Building, conflict management, and problem resolution skills Organization planning, and time management skills. Global perspective in finance. Negotiating skills. Ability to communicate and influence surgeons and other key stakeholders. Critical thinking skills related to issue resolution.
