PhD Research Intern, Programming Systems - 2027

NVIDIA is seeking an outstanding researcher to join our programming systems research team. If you would like to help build the future of computing by equipping programmers with the tools they need to use parallel computing systems, this team will be a great fit for you! We seek to invent innovative parallel algorithm techniques, expressive parallel programming models/languages, powerful code analysis & generation tools, and scalable runtime environments that can help accelerate a broad range of real-world applications. After developing novel solutions and building prototype software that demonstrates their promise, you will work with product teams to help integrate your ideas into NVIDIA's accelerated computing platform.

What you'll be doing:

• Develop algorithms and design software extending the state of the art in parallel computing, machine learning, data analytics, and other technology areas surrounding NVIDIA's business.
• Invent new techniques, technologies, methodologies, and processes, to enable new products or types of products. Deliverable results include prototypes, patents, leading to products and publications.
• Produce technology vision and the basis for products 5-10 years out. Focus should not be on products currently shipping or in development, except as to how they can be extended and improved.

What we need to see:

• Pursuing a PhD Degree in relevant discipline(s) (CS, CE, EE, Physics, Math).
• 2+ years of relevant industrial and University experience preferred. Relevant industries include hardware, software, and algorithm development on desktop, mobile, embedded, and datacenter systems.
• Strong programming ability in at least one of the following languages: C, C++, Python, and/or Rust.
• Track record of research contributions in programming languages, compilers, runtime systems, parallel algorithms, formal verification, agentic software authoring/optimization, or related fields.
• Published academic papers in your field of research.

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

• Expertise in applying programming system insights and techniques to problems in machine learning, data science, and/or distributed computing.
• Expertise in using AI to author, optimize, verify, and maintain software.
• Proven ability to implement your ideas to run on the GPU.
• Experience building software systems used by other developers to solve their own problems.

Our internship hourly rates are a standard pay based on the position, your location, year in school, degree, and experience. The hourly rate for our interns is 38 USD - 94 USD.
