Description

About Us

We believe every child deserves the chance to reach their full potential — and that strong foundations in literacy and numeracy are where this begins.

EIDU partners with governments to strengthen public education systems at scale. Our technology-enabled platform integrates proven educational interventions and supports learners, teachers, education officers, and ministry staff within national systems.

Today, we work with 41 governments and will reach 1,000,000 active students across Kenya and Nigeria in 2026. We have doubled our learner numbers each year over the last five years and aim to reach tens of millions more. A randomized controlled trial found a 0.53 standard deviation improvement in learning outcomes — placing EIDU among the top 10% of education interventions in low- and middle-income countries.

We combine analytical rigor, entrepreneurial drive, and disciplined execution. As we scale, we are building an organization capable of turning strategy into measurable impact at national scale.

About the role

We are looking for a Head of Measurement & Evaluation to form an integral part of the Impact team. You will build and run the systems, tools, and processes that let EIDU reliably measure what is happening in its programmes — from daily platform and usage data through to learning outcomes — and make sure that data is trustworthy, timely, and actually used by teams to make decisions. You will work closely with the Head of Research, who leads the studies and evaluations that draw on the measurement infrastructure you build.

[Location: Kenya/Nigeria/Germany/India preferred, open to discuss]

What you will do:

Measurement System Design

  • Design, pilot, and refine practical measurement tools and instruments — including assessments (e.g. EGRA/EGMA-style literacy and numeracy measures), surveys, and platform/usage data pipelines — appropriate for EIDU's scale and contexts.
  • Design and oversee implementation of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework, working with programme and product teams to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and measurable outcomes for each part of EIDU's work.
  • Establish and maintain data quality standards, validation processes, and protocols across all monitoring and data collection activities.
  • Own the selection, configuration, and administration of data collection and analysis tools (e.g. mobile data collection platforms, dashboards, and statistical/BI software), working closely with the product and data engineering teams.

Data Use and Decision-Making
  • Build dashboards, routine reporting, and other mechanisms that make programme and platform data accessible and usable by teams across the organisation, not just by technical specialists.
  • Support programme, government, and country teams to use data for learning, decision-making, programme adaptation, and donor reporting — building their capacity to interpret and act on data themselves.
  • Develop and drive learning agendas with programme teams, ensuring monitoring data and interim findings are fed back into programme and product design on an ongoing basis.
  • Analyse monitoring data to identify trends, flag risks or implementation issues early, and recommend corrective action.

Systems, Governance, and Quality
  • Set up and maintain a rigorous QA tracking and warning system. Work closely with programme teams to define the content and close the data loop.
  • Maintain EIDU's core data systems and documentation for M&E, ensuring consistency and comparability of indicators across the 41+ government partnerships and multiple countries EIDU operates in.
  • Ensure monitoring and evaluation activities meet appropriate ethical, data protection, and quality standards.
  • Partner with the Head of Research to ensure the measurement infrastructure can support rigorous impact evaluations and studies when needed.

Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the monitoring and evaluation team, promoting technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Partner with programme, product, government, communications, and fundraising teams to embed good measurement practice into day-to-day operations.
  • Support the Chief Impact Officer with the data and monitoring evidence that inform organisational impact priorities and decision-making.

What you should bring:

  • The desire to use your skills to bring about positive social change.
  • Advanced degree in monitoring & evaluation, statistics, data science, social sciences, or a related quantitative field, or 5 years of equivalent professional experience.
  • Track record of designing and running M&E systems or frameworks at scale, ideally in education or another social sector, ideally including experience in low- and middle-income country contexts.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; proficiency with statistical or data analysis and visualization tools (e.g. SQL, R, Python, Power BI, or similar) and with mobile/digital data collection tools.
  • Excellent facilitation and capacity-building skills — able to help non-technical colleagues understand and use data confidently.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in a multi-cultural environment and to translate technical information for non-technical audiences.
  • Great interpersonal skills to collaborate with people at all levels of the organisation and from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Interested in contributing to others' success.
  • Ability to work in a start-up environment navigating complex and fast-changing circumstances.
  • Highly organised person with strong attention to detail and process management skills.
  • Ability to work reliably and have end-to-end project ownership.
