Job Title: Data Center Electrician
Department: Critical Environment / Facilities Operations
Reports To: Chief Engineer / Facilities Manager
Location: Data Center / Critical Environment
Employment Type: Full-Time
Shift Schedule/Hours: Front half (Sun-Wed) AND back half (Wed-Sat) available. 4 10's, with 2 hours overtime pay/day.
Position Summary
The Data Center Electrician is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of electrical systems supporting mission-critical data center operations. This position helps maintain continuous facility availability by ensuring electrical infrastructure is properly maintained, deficiencies are identified and corrected, and all work is performed in accordance with established safety procedures, electrical codes, and site requirements.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with commercial or industrial electrical systems and is comfortable working in a high-availability critical environment where safety, reliability, documentation, and adherence to established procedures are essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems supporting data center and critical facility operations.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical distribution equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults, equipment failures, alarms, and abnormal operating conditions.
- Support electrical systems including: Switchgear and switchboards Transformers Panelboards and distribution panels Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems Standby generators and associated electrical systems Power Distribution Units (PDUs) Motor Control Centers (MCCs) Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) Motors and associated controls Lighting and emergency lighting systems Grounding and bonding systems
- Perform electrical measurements and testing using appropriate test equipment.
- Assist with electrical switching activities in accordance with approved procedures.
- Support planned shutdowns, maintenance activities, equipment replacements, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Perform routine facility rounds and identify abnormal equipment conditions.
- Respond to electrical alarms, outages, and emergency conditions and assist with restoration of normal operations.
- Coordinate with Critical Environment Engineers, facility personnel, contractors, and vendors during maintenance and project activities.
- Review electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, equipment documentation, and manufacturer information as required.
- Accurately document completed maintenance, equipment deficiencies, repairs, and follow-up actions in the site's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Maintain accurate equipment records and support preventive maintenance compliance.
- Follow established change-management and work-authorization processes before performing work on critical systems.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe electrical rooms and work areas.
- Participate in emergency response and incident recovery activities when required.
- Support commissioning, testing, and turnover of new or modified electrical equipment.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
Safety Responsibilities
- Perform all work in accordance with applicable electrical safety requirements and site-specific safety programs.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
- Follow applicable electrical safe-work practices, including arc-flash and shock-protection requirements.
- Properly select, inspect, and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Verify equipment condition and establish an electrically safe work condition when required.
- Participate in job hazard analyses, pre-task planning, and safety meetings.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, electrical hazards, equipment deficiencies, and near misses.
- Stop work when conditions present an unacceptable safety risk.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of an electrical apprenticeship program, technical program, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and troubleshooting commercial, industrial, or mission-critical electrical systems.
- Ability to safely use electrical test equipment and hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems.
- Working knowledge of electrical safety practices and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems systematically and safely.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to accurately document maintenance and repair activities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a critical facilities team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous data center, semiconductor, hospital, manufacturing, utility, or other critical-facility experience.
- State or locally recognized electrician certification/license where applicable.
- Experience with medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems.
- Experience with UPS systems, generators, ATS equipment, switchgear, transformers, and PDUs.
- Experience performing electrical switching or supporting critical electrical shutdowns.
- Familiarity with NFPA 70 (NEC) and NFPA 70E electrical safety practices.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems such as Maximo.
- Experience working in a 24/7 mission-critical environment
Critical Environment Expectations
The Data Center Electrician must understand that maintenance activities can directly affect data center availability. The individual is expected to:
- Follow approved procedures without unauthorized deviation.
- Understand equipment redundancy before beginning work.
- Recognize the potential impact of maintenance activities on critical loads.
- Escalate unexpected equipment conditions immediately.
- Maintain clear communication during critical work.
- Use a disciplined approach to troubleshooting and switching activities.
- Protect personnel safety and critical operations at all times.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
- Ability to work in electrical and mechanical equipment areas.
- Ability to lift and move tools and equipment consistent with job requirements.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in restricted equipment areas when necessary.
- Ability to wear required PPE.
- Ability to respond to facility emergencies as required.
Work Environment / Schedule
- Position supports a continuously operating critical facility.
- Schedule may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, or rotating shifts depending on operational requirements.
- May be required to support planned shutdowns or respond to emergency conditions outside normally scheduled hours.
- Work is performed around energized electrical equipment and other critical infrastructure and requires strict compliance with established safety procedures.

Expected compensation for this position:
118,700.00 – 131,000.00 USD per year
Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
