SUMMARY:
The Carter Center is seeking a Full-Time, Temporary Associate Director to support the Conflict Resolution Program’s (CRP) Strengthening Trust and Resilience (STAR) cross-partisan initiative to foster confidence around elections and prevent potential political violence in the U.S. This position will support the growth, coordination, outreach, planning, learning, and implementation of the Carter Center-supported Democracy Resilience Networks (DRN).
Supervised by the Conflict Resolution Program Senior Associate Director, and in collaboration with other CRP staff, the primary responsibilities will be to support design, implementation, and coordination of activities of the STAR initiative. Main activities will include monitoring, evaluation, learning, research and sectoral analysis, fundraising and proposal development, and drafting of project materials including training curriculum, tool kits, web content, and member outreach materials. This position will maintain awareness of the latest political, legal, and electoral developments in the U.S., with a focus on understanding conflict dynamics and anticipating conflict triggers, both in target U.S. states and states and nationally. May provide staff support and/or leadership in short-term trips to target U.S. states. Anticipated Length of Assignment: 6-9 Months.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support STAR Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning ongoing efforts and evaluation of program outcomes to inform short- and long-term project management and planning.
- Conduct Research and Analysis of sectoral trends and data to assess community-level risks of political violence around the U.S. and keep abreast of cutting-edge skills and tools of the trade that can be brought to bear on this work.
- Lead Fundraising and Development actions, such as maintaining relations with grant agencies and other donors, preparing reports to donor agencies, and proposal development for new funding opportunities.
- Contribute to Strategic Planning efforts linked to ongoing MEL and evaluation efforts to inform strategic decision making, project alignment, and resource allocations.
- Provide Administrative Management and Support to the CRP/STAR team and related STAR project activities.
- Other related activities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in field related to specific program as indicated and six years program related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-graduate degree in conflict resolution, political science, sociology, law, or related fields.
- Proven experience in US focused conflict resolution, including a mix of international and U.S.-focused work.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively across political and sectarian divides is necessary.
- Candidates should have proven familiarity with conflict assessment methodologies.
- Experience with the emerging landscape of U.S. nonprofits working on domestic conflict mitigation, and experience with voting rights and voter mobilization groups, is helpful.
- Experience conducting and overseeing qualitative and quantitative analytical research methods.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to The Carter Center on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines. All non-exempt employees must reside within the state of Georgia.
