Description

Quantity Surveyor & Estimator

We are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Estimator responsible for estimating, tendering, procurement, project cost control, contract administration and financial management across residential and commercial construction projects. Working closely with our Construction Team, suppliers, subcontractors, clients and other construction professionals, you will help ensure projects are accurately priced, commercially well managed and delivered within agreed budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates and quotes as required
  • Price/forecast the cost of materials and trades needed for the project
  • Prepare tender documents, contract, budgets and compliance documentation
  • Track changes to design and/or construction work; adjust budget projections and issue variations accordingly
  • Procure/agree the services of contractors and/or sub-contractors who work on the construction projects
  • Measure and value/quantify the work done (ex-yard or onsite)
  • Check and approve quotes cost and quotes where required
  • Issuing of purchase orders as required
  • Authorise/approve for payment sub-contractors claims for works completed
  • Authorisation of suppliers invoices for materials/services where required
  • Report/monitor project budgets throughout the duration of the project to ensure sufficient allowance has been made for each stage
  • Preparation of legal and/or council compliance documentation as required
  • Manage/oversee project finances and contractual relationships
  • Manage contractual relationships i.e. liaise with the client and construction professionals (i.e. site managers, project managers, site engineers, delivery managers etc).
  • Select and source construction materials
  • Support and co-ordinate with the “Construction Team” to ensure key project deliveries
  • Attend all necessary internal and external construction and project meetings where required
  • Managing/collating and verifying/approving cost increases by suppliers
  • Assist with billing costs and progress claims
  • Health & safety, monitor and record any H&S matters where necessary
  • Maintain companies production and document control system (LUIS)
  • Administration task as required and all other reasonable duties consistent with your role and the day to day running of the comapny business
  • All other reasonable duties consistent with your role and the day to day running of the comapny business.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 7+ years experience with at least 5 years New Zealand experience as a Quantity Surveyor and Estimator in residential and commercial construction.
  • Experience doing complex tenders and project estimations ideally for government agencies.
  • Experience with CostX.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing construction estimates and managing project budgets.
  • Experience working with subcontractors, suppliers and construction professionals.
  • Experience in commercial construction and/or prefabricated or offsite construction would be advantageous.
  • Experience managing projects commercially from initial estimate through procurement, construction, variations and final account would be highly regarded.
