Description
Duties: The Journeyman Electrician performs advanced electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair for the City's wastewater infrastructure, including treatment plants, lift stations, and associated facilities. The role is responsible for executing and leading complex electrical work, ensuring system reliability, and supporting preventative maintenance programs through the use of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Work is performed both independently and as part of a maintenance crew. Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical systems and equipment at wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, and related facilities. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical issues involving industrial equipment and facility systems. Install, modify, and repair electrical systems, including conduit (EMT and rigid), wiring, and electrical components. Maintain and repair switchgear, motor control systems, power distribution systems, emergency power systems, and motor-operated valves. Plan and coordinate electrical maintenance and installation projects, including identifying material needs, ordering parts, and organizing tools and equipment. Utilize CMMS to document work activities, track maintenance history, and support preventive maintenance scheduling in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and system performance. Serve as a lead technician when assigned, providing guidance and support to Utility Maintenance Workers and other personnel. Requires availability for scheduled on-call rotations and emergency response, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Promote and ensure safe work practices for all personnel in compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations. Coordinate and communicate with contractors performing electrical work at City facilities. Maintains all required licenses, certifications, and professional credentials. Works the assigned schedule and complies with City attendance and timekeeping policies. Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). Valid Texas Journeyman Electrician License required at time of hire. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in industrial electrical work, electrical construction, or maintenance in a related field. Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record. Ability to work in industrial environments, including exposure to electrical hazards, confined spaces, outdoor weather conditions, and wastewater facilities. Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time and working in confined or elevated spaces. PREFERRED: Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred. Experience with wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, or similar industrial environments. Experience using CMMS or similar maintenance tracking systems
