Solution Architect

Job description

A leading financial services organization is seeking a Solution Architect for a contract engagement of six months or longer. Based in Toronto, the Solution Architect will work across business and technology teams to turn evolving requirements into practical solutions and guide those solutions from initial discovery through implementation.

This is a broad solution architecture position rather than a specialized cloud, infrastructure, or application architecture role. The successful candidate will bring technical breadth across applications, infrastructure, data, integration, and cloud technologies, along with the ability to engage directly with business stakeholders when requirements are not fully documented.

Responsibilities

• Partner directly with business stakeholders to discover requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Lead solution discovery when requirements are incomplete, using stakeholder conversations and working sessions to establish needs and constraints.
• Evaluate available technologies and select appropriate combinations of cloud, infrastructure, databases, integrations, workflow platforms, and data-transfer capabilities.
• Own solution architecture from initial design through implementation and delivery.
• Collaborate with engineering, data, infrastructure, and business teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Architect solutions involving system integrations, data movement, client data feeds, and secure file transfers using technologies such as SFTP and FTP.
• Design workflow and automation solutions using platforms such as Appian.
• Ensure technical designs follow enterprise architecture, security, and approved technology standards.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, risk, and compliance teams on secure implementations.
• Develop architecture diagrams, integration flows, solution designs, and supporting technical documentation.
• Participate in Agile delivery and work with engineering teams operating within DevOps and CI/CD environments.

Required experience and skills

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field.
• 4 to 7+ years of experience in solution architecture, application design, technical design, or senior software engineering.
• Experience designing and delivering technology solutions within medium-to-large enterprise environments.
• Broad technical knowledge spanning infrastructure, networking, servers, databases, integrations, cloud platforms, and data movement.
• Experience working across multiple technology domains as a Solution Architect.
• Ability to engage directly with business stakeholders and convert loosely defined needs into actionable technical designs.
• Demonstrated experience owning solutions through implementation and delivery rather than working solely in an advisory architecture capacity.
• Experience collaborating with engineering, infrastructure, and data teams.
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms, with Microsoft Azure experience preferred.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and CI/CD environments.
• Experience with workflow automation and low-code platforms is preferred.
• Appian experience is strongly preferred.
• Financial services experience is beneficial but not required.
• Strong communication, stakeholder-management, and problem-solving capabilities.
