Job Summary

The Senior Equity Research Analyst is a senior member of the Equity Investments team responsible for leading sector level research and delivering differentiated, bottom-up insights that drive portfolio performance. The role combines deep industry knowledge, strong analytical skills, and sound investment judgment to produce proprietary research, financial models, and actionable buy and sell recommendations, with clear accountability for portfolio impact.

The position requires independent thinking and conviction, including the ability to identify differentiated opportunities, challenge consensus views, and make decisions under uncertainty. The Senior Equity Research Analyst I communicates insights clearly and effectively, building credibility with portfolio managers, internal partners, and external stakeholders, and translating research into meaningful investment outcomes.

Beyond research, the role provides leadership across the research platform by mentoring others, promoting best practices, and driving collaboration and process improvement. Job Responsibilities and Duties

Research & Analysis, Insights, and Alpha 

• Lead research coverage across the sector by performing comprehensive research and delivering differentiated, actionable insights 
• Deliver defendable buy and sell recommendations supported by rigorous analysis and proprietary research. 
• Generate proprietary insights through fieldwork, management and expert interviews, channel checks, and site visits, to create differentiated perspectives and a repeatable edge 
• Formulate proprietary investment research with clear implications for portfolio positioning. 
• Demonstrate linkage between research output and portfolio impact through documented attribution and lessons learned. 
• Recognized for deep industry knowledge, research, and differentiated perspectives. 
• Develop and maintain thesis driven financial models and data driven frameworks that synthesize competitive dynamics, valuation, operating performance, sentiment, and industry drivers. 
• Assess market expectations, sentiment, and positioning alongside fundamentals to identify key drivers of stock performance and inform conviction, timing, and risk management. 
• Identify narrative‑driven and shifting market environments, challenge consensus views, and apply disciplined judgment to mitigate behavioral biases while linking insights to portfolio outcomes. 

Communication, Collaboration, and Leadership 

• Mentor analysts across the team, setting tone and standards for research quality and sector coverage. 
• Provide regular coaching and actionable feedback to drive observable skill development and professional growth. 
• Lead strategic conversations on significant sector developments and market dynamics with analysts and portfolio managers. 
• Educate colleagues on sector-specific investment processes and proactively share expertise to strengthen team capabilities. 
• Navigate competing priorities effectively and secure buy-in among stakeholders to align on investment decisions. 
• Exhibit thought leadership internally by shaping narratives and influencing capital allocation through research-driven calls. 
• Lead presentations and facilitate discussions with internal teams and external stakeholders. 

Process Ownership and Independence 

• Drive process improvements that enhance resilience, scalability, and efficiency of research workflows. 
• Establish visible processes for canvassing the assigned universe and influencing the pipeline of new investment ideas. 
• Codify standards and frameworks to institutionalize best practices and ensure coverage continuity. 
• Take initiative to introduce original ideas and demonstrate independent thinking in research and idea generation.

Job Qualifications

Required:

• Experience: Minimum of 8 years of relevant investment professional experience sufficient to perform independent work.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field, plus  
  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, business administration or 
  • or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. 
• Alternative requirements: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related discipline plus a minimum of 15 years of successful investment professional experience.    
• Knowledge: Expert understanding of an investment research process and recognized thought leader in the Industrials sector. 
• Collaboration: Ability and eagerness to work effectively in a team environment. 
• Mindset: High level of intellectual curiosity and a continuous learning approach to gain investment industry knowledge. 
• Technical Skills: 
  • Advanced modeling/valuation fluency (DCF, comps, multiples) 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite  
  • Familiarity with Python, Bloomberg, FactSet, or similar tools 
• Organizational Skills: Strong time management, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks. 
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities. 
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
• Adaptability: Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines. 
• Ethical: Adheres to high ethical standards and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree in finance, economics, business administration or a related field, plus Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. 

              

Pay Transparency

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $196,228.00 - $265,484.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
