Description
The Research Associate will support research and development activities in advanced robotic grippers, tactile sensing technologies and intelligent robotic manipulation systems. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, modelling, fabrication and testing of flexible sensors, wearable devices and robotic sensing solutions for human-robot interaction and healthcare robotics applications.
Key responsibilities include:
Conduct research on robotic grippers, tactile sensors and flexible electronic systems for robotic manipulation applications.
Design, simulate and characterize flexible, stretchable and wearable sensing devices.
Support the development of SAW, PMUT and MEMS-based sensing technologies where applicable.
Perform device fabrication, prototyping, integration and laboratory testing.
Utilize engineering simulation tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software for design optimization and performance evaluation.
Analyse experimental data and prepare technical reports, publications and project deliverables.
Collaborate with researchers, faculty members, students and industry partners to achieve project objectives.
Contribute to research outcomes, innovation initiatives and industry-funded project milestones.
Job Requirements:
PhD in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics, Microelectronics Engineering or a related discipline.
Knowledge, research experience or demonstrated interest in one or more of the following areas:
Robotic grippers and robotic manipulation systems;
Flexible, stretchable and wearable materials, devices and tactile sensors;
SAW, PMUT and MEMS design, fabrication or characterization;
Flexible electronics, e-skin technologies and soft robotic sensing applications.
Familiarity with engineering simulation tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or related software is advantageous.
Experience in device fabrication, prototyping and experimental characterization is preferred.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical communication skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
