Position Summary:

The Residential Medication Technician is a compassionate, dependable professional responsible for the safe, accurate, and compliant administration of medications to individuals served by Pyxis Homes. This role supports individual health and stability, builds trust through meaningful interactions, and upholds strict adherence to regulatory standards, documentation requirements, and trauma-informed care practices.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer medications safely, accurately, and at prescribed times in accordance with physician orders and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify the correct individual, medication, dosage, route, and time prior to administration; obtain and respect consent before administering medications.
  • Accurately document all medication administration events in the approved Medication Administration Record (MAR) system.
  • Maintain complete, timely, and accurate records in accordance with Pyxis Homes policy and regulatory standards.
  • Report and document medication errors, refusals, or concerns immediately per established protocol.
  • Observe individuals following medication administration for adverse reactions or side effects, maintaining a minimum observation window (typically 5–10 minutes) to ensure safety and well-being.
  • Use observation periods as an opportunity to engage individuals, provide emotional support, and strengthen therapeutic relationships.
  • Communicate concerns, reactions, or changes in individual condition to C.A.R.E. Team Leads and appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure medications, including controlled substances, are stored securely in compliance with all safety regulations and organizational policies.
  • Maintain proper medication inventory procedures, including counts, audits, and discrepancy reporting.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all individuals and medication information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
  • Uphold professional boundaries, ethical standards, and trauma-informed care practices.
  • Travel from time to time, but not on a monthly basis. Travel may be for training, career fairs, conferences, meetings, or other work-related duties.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company's discretion.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow medical and regulatory procedures precisely while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to observe and respond appropriately to medical or behavioral concerns.
  • Ability to engage individuals in a supportive, respectful, and trauma-informed manner.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior caregiving, direct support, or medication administration experience preferred but not required.

License and Certification:

  • Medication Administration Certification (must possess or obtain and maintain).
  • Safe Crisis Management (SCM) Certification and Emergency Safety Physical Intervention Certification (must possess or obtain and maintain).
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred or required based on program policy).
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and proof of auto insurance.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in residential home settings supporting individuals served by Pyxis Homes. The role is hands-on and people-centered rather than office-based: it requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching, along with regular physical support of and interaction with individuals served. Employees must be able to lift and move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally. Manual dexterity is required for medication preparation, administration, and documentation. Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and overnights, and the employee must be able to remain alert and responsive throughout post-medication observation periods.
