Operational Risk Manager
Melbourne | Permanent, Full-Time
At Heartland Bank, we are committed to building a strong risk culture that supports sustainable growth, protects our customers and enables confident decision making. We are looking for an experienced Operational Risk Manager to join our Enterprise Risk, Compliance & Sustainability team and play a key role in strengthening our Line 2 operational risk capability.
About the role
Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Risk, Compliance & Sustainability, you will provide independent Line 2 oversight across operational risk management, helping to ensure our risk framework remains effective, embedded and aligned to regulatory requirements and business strategy. You will partner with leaders across the business, providing constructive challenge, practical advice and meaningful insights that support better risk outcomes.
What you'll be doing
Maintain and continuously improve Heartland's operational risk management framework, policies and standards.
Lead Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) activities and targeted operational risk reviews across the business.
Analyse operational risk trends, emerging risks, control gaps and key risk themes, translating insights into meaningful reporting.
Provide Line 2 oversight of business continuity, operational resilience and critical operations activities.
Support oversight of service provider and outsourcing risk, including remediation and assurance activities.
Lead or contribute to assurance reviews and monitor remediation actions through to closure.
Support governance forums through high-quality reporting, escalation and risk insights.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen risk maturity, reporting and risk culture across the organisation.
Does this sound like you?
You have 5+ years' experience in operational risk, enterprise risk, audit, assurance or a related discipline within banking or regulated financial services.
You have strong knowledge of operational risk frameworks, RCSA methodologies, controls, incidents and assurance practices.
You understand APRA prudential standards, particularly CPS 220 and CPS 230.
You're confident engaging with senior stakeholders and providing constructive challenge where required.
You can translate complex risk information into clear, practical insights and recommendations.
You enjoy identifying improvements that enhance risk management, resilience and organisational effectiveness.
Experience with Protecht or a similar GRC platform will be highly regarded.
