The Associate Sonographer operates imaging equipment and software, mostly ultrasound equipment, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role requires operating imaging equipment, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining high-quality imaging standards. Job Summary

The Associate Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations to assist providers in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role operates ultrasound imaging equipment and associated software to obtain high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and exceptional service.

The Associate Sonographer works closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare team members to support timely and accurate patient care. This position requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care in a fast-paced Women's Health clinical setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with department protocols and provider orders.
  • Operate ultrasound imaging equipment and software to capture high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Evaluate images for quality, completeness, and diagnostic value prior to submission for interpretation.
  • Prepare, position, and assist patients before, during, and after imaging procedures.
  • Explain procedures and address patient questions and concerns to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Verify imaging orders and document patient information, procedure details, contrast administration (when applicable), and patient responses.
  • Observe patients throughout procedures and utilize appropriate patient transfer and immobilization techniques when necessary.
  • Accurately maintain and manage patient records and imaging data in PACS and other electronic systems.
  • Ensure compliance with patient safety standards, infection prevention practices, and organizational policies.
  • Monitor imaging equipment for proper operation, perform routine cleaning and maintenance, and report equipment concerns promptly.
  • Submit requests for equipment and technology needs and assist in resolution efforts.
  • Collaborate effectively with providers and interdisciplinary team members to ensure quality patient outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Sonography with completion of required clinical hours OR
  • Registered Sonographer.

Required Experience

  • No experience required.

Licensure

  • State licensure may be required based on state regulations and scope of practice.

Certifications

  • ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI registry certification OR
  • Registry eligible with achievement of registry within six (6) months of eligibility.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within thirty (30) days of hire.

In the state of Arkansas, ARDMS-RVT, CCI-RVS, or ARRT-VS may be required within twelve (12) months of hire and/or transfer depending on the scope of the role.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of ultrasound imaging protocols and the ability to adjust techniques based on patient needs and clinical indications.
  • Understanding of safe and proper ultrasound equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of equipment emergency procedures and patient safety practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with patients, providers, and coworkers.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare environment.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing patient care demands.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Prolonged standing and walking throughout the workday.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting to perform essential job duties.
  • Ability to safely assist with patient movement and positioning.
