Road & Rail Services is looking for dependable, safety-minded individuals to join our Vance, Alabama operation as Railcar Inspector & Preparation Technicians.

This is a hands-on industrial position where you will help prepare railcars before new vehicles are loaded for transportation. Your day will include inspecting railcars, removing debris, checking equipment, and making sure each railcar is properly prepared for service.

This position starts at 4:30 a.m. Candidates must be dependable and available to work up to six days per week based on customer demand and production needs.

What You'll Be Doing

As part of our rail operations team, your responsibilities will include:

Inspecting railcars for damage, wear, fatigue, or other visible concerns

Checking railcar interiors before vehicles are loaded

Removing dirt, debris, and potential contaminants using backpack blowers, scrapers, and approved equipment

Assisting with opening, inspecting, and securing railcar end doors

Identifying repair needs that fall within Road & Rail Services' authorized scope of work

Reporting damaged railcars, equipment concerns, and unsafe conditions

Following railroad, customer, and company safety requirements

Properly using and maintaining assigned tools and equipment

Keeping work areas clean and free of unnecessary hazards

Supporting daily production goals and assisting coworkers as needed

Completing additional railcar preparation and housekeeping duties as assigned

What You Need

Valid state-issued driver's license

Reliable attendance and punctuality

Ability to consistently report for a 4:30 a.m. start time

Availability to work up to six days per week when required

Safety-first mindset

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Willingness to learn railcar inspection and preparation procedures

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-focused environment

Team-oriented attitude and strong work ethic

Previous railroad experience is not required. Experience in general labor, manufacturing, automotive operations, industrial cleaning, warehousing, vehicle processing, or similar hands-on work can be helpful.

Work Environment

This is an active position performed around rail equipment and may involve working outdoors in changing weather conditions. Employees should be comfortable standing, walking, bending, reaching, and performing repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday. Required PPE must be worn at all times.
