Position Summary
The Pharmacy Inventory Technician has the primary responsibility for the inventory within the pharmacy. This includes the oversight of purchasing and receiving of pharmaceuticals, the maintenance and control of that inventory, and all recordkeeping associated with that
Job Description
Key Outcomes:
- Provides day-to-day oversight of medication and supply inventory for the Mail Order Pharmacy, ensuring appropriate stock levels are maintained to ensure members receive their medications on time.
- Verifies accurate receipt of wholesaler and direct vendor orders received on a daily basis. Maintains all records required by law and by departmental policies.
- Places the orders received daily into the appropriate locations on the pharmacy inventory shelves. Provides on order items to filling team for completion
- Receives daily wholesaler and vendor orders into the pharmacy computer system, reconciles inventory records, and completes necessary adjustments to maintain accurate perpetual inventory.
- Generates, reviews, and transmits daily purchase orders to wholesalers and direct vendors with established purchasing guidelines, inventory needs, anticipated utilization, and available supply
- Receives and processes monthly Department of Defense replacement orders and coordinates DOD credit orders in accordance with established requirements. Coordinates the removal of outdated drugs from stock on a quarterly basis. Manages the inventory-related return of recalled medications following pharmacist review and direction.
- Collaborates with, Mail Order Pharmacy Manager, Supervisor of Technicians, Pharmacy Administration team and the pharmacist team on use of new drug products, min/max inventory level for all medications, including the robot, DAW and Birth Control Dispensing lists, and a variety of other projects aimed at enhanced inventory control.
- Assists with development, review and revision of inventory related policies, procedures and workflows for regulatory compliance, consistent operations, inventory accuracy and cost-saving purchasing.
- Works with Supervisor of Technicians and pharmacy leadership to review reports related to discontinued medications, lower-cost and new generic alternatives on the market, pricing changes, product availability, slow-moving inventory, and other inventory management opportunities.
- Leads and coordinates pharmacy cycle counts, investigates discrepancies, escalates significant or unresolved discrepancies to the Pharmacy manager, and partners with the Supervisor to implement corrective actions to improve inventory accuracy.
- Oversees and participates in the inventory process including preparing, reconciling variances and completing documentation
- Serves as a resource for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy leadership by researching and responding to questions about product availability, ordering, shortages, recalls, pricing and the inventory process overall.
- Proactively identifies and recommends cost saving opportunities.
- Completes all Pharmacy Technician responsibilities as requested.
- Communicates with members regarding backorder, discontinued or medications that are not available, keeps members informed of delays and collaborates with the pharmacists and other team members to identify available options or alternatives that are clinically appropriate.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma is required
- 2 years - pharmacy technician experience required
- Experience with pharmacy purchasing and receiving is preferred
Required License(s) and/or Certification(s):
- Must have current pharmacy technician registration in the state
Skills/Knowledge/Competencies (Behaviors):
- Moderate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Knowledge of medical terminology, generic/brand name drugs and strong math skills preferred

Pay Range: $22.62 - $27.94 The pay range above reflects the anticipated base pay range based on a full-time position. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and other job-related considerations. Employees may also be eligible for additional compensation, including incentive or commission-based programs, where applicable and subject to the terms of the relevant plan. In addition to base compensation, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement savings with employer contributions, paid time off (including volunteer time off!), pie day, and other employee benefits.This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
