Job Description
The Senior Publisher is responsible for the strategic and operational management of a portfolio of medical journals, primarily focusing on China partnership titles. The Senior Publisher will also play a key role in launching new proprietary journals and supporting proprietary journals by closely collaborating with Publishers in other locations, providing insights of China markets to the wider publishing team. The role has a strong focus on China and works closely with editors, editorial offices, Universities and hospitals to build trusted relationship, support the strategic development of journals, drive long-term growth and ensure the customer needs are addressed promptly and properly. The role reports directly to the Publishing Director in China.
Responsibilities:
• Define and execute portfolio and journal level strategies that support the immediate journal development needs as well as drive long term success of journals.
• Identify opportunities and risks by conducting detailed market intelligence, portfolio analysis and competitiveness analysis.
• Understand the trends and changes in the medical community you serve to make sure we quickly respond and adapt to the changes.
• Build strong network in China and actively engage with key experts and opinion leaders in the medical community you serve.
• Work closely with editors and Editorial offices of partnership journals to ensure they understand and follow the best practices and guide the journals to grow for long term value.
• Manage contract negotiation with external and internal stakeholders by effective communications to ensure successful contract renewals.
• Monitor and secure the financial viability of the journal portfolio. Raise invoices on schedule and maintain ongoing communication with clients to resolve billing and payment issues promptly.
• Ensure timely publication of accepted content by working closely with editorial and production team and be detail driven.
• Be a key player in launching proprietary journals and actively involved in key tasks such as conducting market analysis, preparing business case, appointing editors and board members and managing operational tasks of new launches.
Job Qualifications:
• Master’s degree or above, most preferably from bio-medicine or related filed
• Solid experiences and business acumen in academic publishing.
• Experiences in managing both Chinese society journals and proprietary journals, and experiences in launching new titles strongly preferred, preferably 5+ year
• Organizational Skills: Strong ability to maintain detailed, accurate records while managing multiple concurrent tasks; systematic tracking of workflows, deliverables and key milestones to ensure consistent on-time execution.
• Communication skills: Ability to deal with complex situations by clear and effective communications to influence decisions.
• Market Research: Advanced knowledge in conducting and applying market research.
• Team Collaboration: Strong capability in working effectively with teams.
• Customer Feedback Utilization: Ability to synthesize and apply feedback for content improvements.
