Job Description

This is a part-time, temporary/seasonal position.  Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis to establish an applicant pool.  As vacancies occur, they are filled from the pool. This position will be for the Fallon campus.

Provides classroom-based support for hybrid courses delivered simultaneously to in-person and remote students through Zoom. Assists the in-person instructor by managing the online classroom environment, monitoring remote student participation, facilitating communication between remote students and the instructor, and supporting the technology used to deliver instruction. The position helps ensure that students participating online can see, hear, communicate, and engage effectively while allowing the instructor to remain focused on teaching and student learning. 

Essential Functions 

Hybrid Classroom Support — 45% 

  • Support the instructor during live class sessions that include both in-person and remote students
  • Monitor the Zoom classroom environment throughout each instructional session
  • Facilitate communication between online students and the in-person instructor
  • Notify the instructor of questions, comments, raised hands, participation requests, or technical concerns from online students
  • Assist with management of virtual classroom interactions so remote students can participate effectively

Zoom and Technology Management — 35% 

  • Launch, monitor, and manage Zoom sessions and related classroom technologies

  • Monitor audio, video, screen sharing, chat, reactions, participant controls, and breakout room functions as needed.

  • Confirm that remote students can adequately see, hear, and participate in classroom activities

  • Troubleshoot routine Zoom, audio, video, connectivity, and classroom technology issues

  • Coordinate with designated technical support personnel when an issue requires advanced assistance

Instructor and Online Student Assistance — 10% 

  • Provide operational support to the instructor regarding Zoom tools and virtual classroom features

  • Assist online students with basic Zoom participation and connectivity issues

  • Help maintain an organized, respectful, and productive virtual learning environment

Documentation and Reporting — 10% 

  • Document classroom technology issues, support requests, actions taken, and outcomes

  • Report recurring concerns and patterns to the appropriate supervisor or technical support team

  • Provide practical feedback regarding hybrid classroom processes and technology performance

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience
  • Experience using Zoom or a comparable videoconferencing platform
  • Experience providing customer service, educational support, technology support, or related assistance

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience supporting hybrid, online, or distance education
  • Experience working in a higher education environment
  • Experience with classroom audiovisual equipment and instructional technologies
  • Experience facilitating virtual meetings, webinars, or collaborative online sessions

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Working knowledge of Zoom features, participant controls, chat, reactions, breakout rooms, and screen-sharing functions
  • Ability to monitor multiple communication channels and participant needs simultaneously
  • Ability to identify and respond to technology issues during live instruction
  • Ability to communicate professionally with faculty, students, and technical support personnel
  • Ability to remain attentive, organized, and composed during extended class sessions
  • Ability to work independently, follow established procedures, and exercise sound judgment
  • Commitment to supporting an accessible and inclusive learning environment for remote participants

Working Conditions 

  • Work is performed primarily in classroom settings during scheduled instructional sessions
  • May require prolonged periods of monitoring computer screens and Zoom sessions
  • May require occasional movement or adjustment of classroom technology and audiovisual equipment
  • Work schedule may include daytime or evening classes based on academic scheduling needs

Position Distinction 

This position supports the instructor’s management of the online portion of a hybrid classroom. It does not provide instruction, tutoring, academic advising, grading, evaluation of student performance, or subject-matter assistance.
