Assistant Chief Engineer-JLL
What this job involves:
As an Assistant Chief Engineer at JLL, you'll serve as a key technical leader working directly under the Chief Engineer to supervise the Engineering Department and manage all operations and maintenance activities for our client's facilities. This role places you at the heart of building operations, where you'll provide joint oversight of engineering staff while managing preventive maintenance programs, repairs, and vendor relationships for critical building systems and equipment. We believe the most effective teams are built when everyone is empowered to thrive, and in this position, you'll mentor technicians, troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems, and ensure seamless facility operations that meet client expectations and industry best practices. What your day-to-day will look like:
• Supervise and provide technical guidance to engineering staff on mechanical systems, electrical systems, control systems, life safety systems, and safety procedures
• Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs on HVAC equipment including chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, air handlers, and air distribution systems
• Conduct comprehensive building system inspections covering fire alarm panels, HVAC equipment, and plumbing systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance
• Monitor and troubleshoot building automation systems (BMS/EMS) for equipment operations, identifying issues and implementing corrective actions
• Manage preventive maintenance assignments through the CMMS system (Corrigo), ensuring timely completion and accurate documentation of all work
• Respond to emergency situations on-site and coordinate repairs to critical systems including electrical distribution, emergency power, and life safety equipment
• Perform daily rounds and readings of plant equipment, data center systems, generators, and mechanical/electrical rooms while maintaining detailed maintenance records
Required qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED
•5+ years of hands-on building engineering or facilities maintenance experience
• Universal CFC (EPA) certification
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, single line diagrams, specifications, O&M manuals, and sequence of operations
• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical distribution, plumbing systems, and building automation platforms
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex building systems, isolate root causes, and perform effective repairs
• Excellent communication skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and computerized maintenance management systems
• Valid clean driver's license and ability to pass DMV background check for operating site vehicles
Preferred qualifications:
• Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing or Professional Engineering license
• Experience with critical data center infrastructure and emergency power systems
• Background in Class A commercial office buildings or corporate campus environments
• Familiarity with LOTO procedures, ladder safety protocols, and OSHA safety compliance requirements
• Proven supervisory experience leading and developing technical teams
Schedule: M-F 7:00AM-3:30PM
