Position Summary

Palm House is seeking a Seasonal Dishwasher to support our Culinary and Food & Beverage teams by maintaining clean, sanitized, and organized kitchenware and work areas. This essential role helps ensure our teams have the equipment and supplies they need to deliver exceptional dining experiences.

The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, and takes pride in maintaining a clean and safe kitchen. With attention to detail and a collaborative attitude, the Dishwasher keeps operations moving smoothly throughout preparation, service, and closing.

This position is seasonal, with employment anticipated from October through May. Employment is expected to conclude at the end of the seasonal period.

Key Responsibilities

Dishwashing & Sanitation

• Sort, scrape, wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.
• Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and according to training.
• Follow approved manual washing and sanitizing procedures for items that cannot go through the machine.
• Check cleaned items for food residue, damage, and cleanliness before returning them to service.
• Allow sanitized items to air-dry and store them properly.
• Monitor dishwashing temperatures or sanitizer levels as trained and report concerns promptly.

Kitchen Cleanliness & Organization

• Keep dishwashing areas, sinks, work surfaces, and designated storage spaces clean and organized.
• Clean kitchen floors and assigned areas according to established schedules.
• Remove trash and recycling and maintain designated waste areas.
• Keep walkways clear and respond promptly to spills.
• Separate clean and soiled items to prevent cross-contamination.
• Complete assigned opening duties, closing duties, and deep-cleaning tasks.

Service Support & Teamwork

• Maintain a steady supply of clean kitchenware and service items during busy periods.
• Return clean items to their designated locations safely and efficiently.
• Communicate with Culinary and Food & Beverage teams about urgent equipment and service needs.
• Assist with moving and organizing kitchen supplies as directed.
• Report damaged items, equipment malfunctions, and supply shortages.
• Participate in training and support a respectful, cooperative work environment.

Safety & Equipment Care

• Follow chemical handling instructions and use required personal protective equipment.
• Handle hot cookware, sharp utensils, and broken glass according to safety procedures.
• Clean dishwashing equipment as trained and report maintenance needs.
• Use safe lifting and handling techniques when moving racks, cookware, and supplies.
• Uphold Palm House standards for sanitation, hygiene, and professional appearance.

Experience & Knowledge

• Previous dishwashing, stewarding, or commercial kitchen experience preferred.
• Familiarity with commercial dishwashing equipment and sanitation practices is an advantage.
• Ability to follow cleaning instructions, chemical safety guidance, and equipment procedures.
• Willingness to learn and complete required safety and sanitation training.

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to maintain an efficient workflow during busy service periods.
• Ability to follow directions and communicate clearly with colleagues.

Availability & Working Conditions

• Availability for seasonal employment from October through May, with employment expected to conclude at the end of the season.
• Flexibility to work varying shifts, including mornings, evenings, late closing shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work safely in a busy kitchen with exposure to heat, steam, moisture, noise, and cleaning products.
• Willingness to use required protective equipment and follow safe work practices.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

• Standing and walking for extended periods throughout a shift.
• Lifting and carrying heavy pots, pans, dish racks, and kitchen supplies using safe techniques and assistance or lifting aids as needed.
• Pushing and pulling carts containing dishes, equipment, and supplies.
• Bending, reaching, and stooping to load equipment, retrieve items, and clean work areas.
• Performing repetitive hand and arm movements while washing, scrubbing, sorting, and stacking kitchenware.
• Safely handling hot items and operating commercial dishwashing equipment.
