About This Opportunity

Inmar’s Summer Internship Program offers a dynamic experience designed to give students real-world exposure to a professional environment while contributing meaningfully to company initiatives. Interns split their time between a high-impact cross-functional team project and department-specific responsibilities assigned by their direct manager.

Our Information Security Internship opportunities give students hands-on experience helping protect Inmar’s technology, data, systems, and people from evolving security risks. Depending on business needs, opportunities may be available across areas such as Security Operations, Infrastructure & Cloud Security, Identity & Access Management, Vulnerability Management, Threat Detection, Security Engineering, Governance, Risk & Compliance, and other cybersecurity functions.

As an Information Security intern, you may help identify and evaluate security risks, investigate potential threats, strengthen cloud or infrastructure security, automate security processes, support identity and access controls, or help teams build security considerations into the way technology is designed and operated.

You’ll work alongside experienced security professionals and collaborate with partners across Engineering, Infrastructure, Technology, Product, and other business teams. Specific assignments will vary, giving you opportunities to apply your current knowledge while gaining exposure to different cybersecurity disciplines, tools, and practices.

Please note: These internship opportunities are expected to be based onsite at our Winston-Salem, NC location and will require in-person attendance during the summer. This posting is intended to build our candidate pipeline for anticipated Summer 2027 Information Security internship opportunities. Specific internship assignments, responsibilities, team placement, and technology stack will be based on business needs and determined as opportunities are finalized.

What You May Do

Depending on your internship assignment, you may:

  • Support initiatives across security operations, vulnerability management, identity and access management, infrastructure security, cloud security, threat detection, or incident response.

  • Help monitor and analyze security information to identify potential threats, vulnerabilities, unusual activity, or areas of risk.

  • Assist with security investigations, analysis, documentation, and follow-up activities.

  • Contribute to infrastructure and cloud security initiatives that strengthen and standardize secure technology environments.

  • Help automate security processes, controls, testing, or configurations to improve consistency and efficiency.

  • Support threat modeling and detection initiatives by working with technical teams to understand systems, identify potential abuse cases, and determine information needed to detect security events.

  • Research emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, vulnerabilities, and industry practices and communicate relevant findings to the team.

  • Contribute to governance, risk, compliance, data protection, policy, or security awareness initiatives.

  • Help document security processes, configurations, requirements, findings, and best practices.

  • Collaborate with Security, Engineering, Infrastructure, DevOps, Product, and other teams to help incorporate security into technology and business processes.

  • Explore opportunities to use automation, AI, and emerging technologies to improve security operations, analysis, detection, and efficiency.

Your Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with curiosity about how technology works, how it can be compromised, and how it can be better protected.

  • Foundational understanding of one or more areas such as networking, operating systems, cloud computing, cybersecurity concepts, or software development.

  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to investigating and solving problems.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical information and explain findings to others.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.

  • Curiosity about cybersecurity threats, technologies, and evolving security practices.

  • Eagerness to learn new tools and concepts and contribute in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Depending on the Assignment, Preferred Skills May Include

  • Coursework, labs, projects, or experience in cybersecurity, network security, cloud security, security operations, digital forensics, risk management, or secure software/infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with security platforms or tools such as Splunk, ServiceNow, vulnerability scanners, or similar technologies.

  • Experience working with Linux or other operating systems.

  • Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.

  • Familiarity with Git/GitHub, CI/CD concepts, or DevOps/DevSecOps practices.

  • Exposure to automation or infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Packer.

  • Familiarity with containers, cloud infrastructure, or technologies such as Docker.

  • Exposure to security frameworks, CIS benchmarks, system hardening, or security compliance concepts.

  • Familiarity with threat modeling, attack techniques, detection concepts, or incident response.

  • Academic, personal, lab, or competition-based projects that demonstrate hands-on interest in cybersecurity.
