Job purpose
BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a EHS&S Manager, responsible for the development, management, implementation and improvement of the Safety, Health, Environment, Energy and Asset Protection management systems in the manufacturing plants: SLPM and SLPE and in the sites and laboratories corresponding to MPEC, establishing policies, programs and initiatives in order to create a comprehensive culture in the prevention of occupational accidents / diseases, environmental pollution, sustainable use of energy and loss prevention, taking as reference and compliance with the legal, corporate, client and other applicable requirements according to the processes / activities.
Key responsibilities
Responsible for the design of the comprehensive strategy for the prevention of: work-related accidents and illnesses, environmental damage and property losses.
• Provide leadership to implement and maintain EHS&S policies, objectives, control designs, methods, procedures and programs.
• Develop the comprehensive annual work plan for the systems in charge (Safety, Health, Environment, Energy, Ergonomics and Property Security).
• Provide leadership for the implementation, maintenance and improvement of the ISO 45001, ISO 14001 & ISO 50001 management systems
• Manage, advise and implement / update these systems in all operations, based on compliance with corporate standards, legal requirements and other requirements and lessons learned.
• Maintain and improve preventive safety strategies such as: 5-minute talks, planned and unplanned tours, weekly safety performance evaluation, BBO cards, etc.
• Leading advisor in accident/incident investigations based on the 8D methodology for determining systemic corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Ensuring compliance with legal and other requirements, corresponding to safety, health, environment and energy applicable to each site at the different levels of compliance: federal, state and municipal.
• Maintain cutting-edge knowledge of internal and external regulations, practices, tools, processes and communicate these best practices to the organization.
• Enforce established safety, health, environmental and energy policies, procedures and controls.
• Carry out, through staff, hazard identification and risk assessment (ATS), assessment of environmental aspects and impacts, health and ergonomic risk assessments, determination of energy uses/consumption and energy baseline.
• Propose safe, ergonomic and efficient designs (energy consumption) for the operation of machinery and work stations.
• Train and coordinate the activities of the members of the different committees in terms of management systems, prevention, among others, emergency brigades, EHS&S commission, central safety committee to strengthen the culture of prevention in the company.
• Carry out basic operating procedures in terms of occupational health, to define the guidelines to be followed by the medical service.
• Prevent and, if necessary, correct occupational diseases that occur in the plant and avoid subsequent consequences by taking preventive and corrective actions.
• Determine, together with the Medical Service, the type of medical examinations to be performed on workers according to the risk exposed to raise staff awareness and reduce accidents/illnesses.
• Coordinate situational health and safety diagnoses in the company, to detect potential work risks in a timely manner.
• Provide leadership in property security processes to prevent losses in relation to human resources, assets, infrastructure, raw materials and products.
• Attend external, corporate, government and/or client audits regarding Safety, Health, Environment and Energy management systems
• Measure, audit and evaluate the effectiveness of EHS&S management systems and programs using BorgWarner's existing tools and programs.
• Development of the internal civil protection plan, programming of training and training of emergency response brigades, evacuation drills, use of firefighting equipment and first aid tailored to the sites under responsibility.
• Responsible for monitoring the proper maintenance of fire detection and response systems.
• Stopping processes in case of deviations.
• Establishing and maintaining a culture of integrity, credibility and responsibility within the EHS&S function.
• Serving as a liaison in the application of corporate EHS&S initiatives.
• Preparing the EHS&S budget for the plants and MPEC.
• Promoting actions to take advantage of cost reductions through the consolidation of service providers (doctors, legal consultants, etc.) and standardizing supplies (PPE, doctors, etc.)
• Identifying the need to design and build EHS&S training programs and provide education to all internal clients.
• Support, train, guide and establish professional development plans for the personnel under his/her charge.
• Manage internal relationships (including all management) and external relationships (government agencies, consultants, insurers, legal, industrial parks, neighbors, etc.) as necessary.
• Seeking sustainability, making manual or paper processes efficient, to electronic media/platforms, thus seeking data assurance and practical management of information.
• Keep and analyze statistics on work accidents and occupational diseases for decision making in matters of Safety, Health and Environment.
• Participate actively and enthusiastically in DE&I activities and plant engagement.
• Actively participate in the Annual Final Inventory.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Industrial, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
• Time of experience in a similar position: 5 years or more of experience with increasing responsibility.
• Required technical knowledge: 5 years or more as EHS&S coordination or supervision, strong understanding of EHS&S practices, strong understanding of ISO 4500, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 management systems. Lead auditor of ISO 4500, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 management systems, Mexican official standards referring to STPS, SSA and SEMARNAT.
