As a world-class corporate citizen guided by its mission statement, “To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow,” Delta leverages its core competence in high-efficiency power electronics and its ESG-embedded business model to address key environmental issues, such as climate change. Delta serves customers through its sales offices, R&D centers and manufacturing facilities spread over close to 200 locations across five continents.  Delta has 158 sales offices, 72 R&D centers and 48 manufacturing facilities worldwide.

Throughout its history, Delta has received various global awards and recognition for its business achievements, innovative technologies, and dedication to ESG. Since 2011, Delta has been listed on the DJSI World Index of Dow Jones Sustainability™ Indices for 11 consecutive years.  In 2021, Delta was also recognized by CDP with leadership level ratings for its substantial contribution to climate change and water security issues and named Supplier Engagement Leader for its continuous development of a sustainable value chain. At Delta, we’re leading the energy transition with innovative solutions in solar inverters, energy storage systems, and EV charging infrastructure.  Our technologies are helping utilities, businesses, and communities decarbonize and build resilient, intelligent energy ecosystems.  Join us in creating a cleaner, smarter energy future.

About the role:

We are building the next generation of solid‑state, grid‑interactive power blocks that enable high‑density, flexible power delivery for datacenters, renewable energy systems, and advanced microgrids.

The Simulation Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and validating component‑level and system‑level simulation models for Solid‑State Transformers (SSTs) and microgrid architectures. The primary focus of the role is on MATLAB/Simulink‑based modeling of power electronics, controls, and grid interaction, supporting product development, application engineering, and system validation. This role collaborates closely with application, and standards engineers, providing simulation insight to guide architecture decisions, control strategy development, and performance validation across a range of grid‑connected and microgrid use cases.  Data center and DER‑enabled applications represent key but not exclusive deployment scenarios.

Key Responsibilities

System‑Level Modeling & Simulation

  • Work with product teams to develop and maintain simulation models for SST‑based microgrid systems
  • Build system level models at multiple abstraction levels to balance simulation speed and fidelity
  • Evaluate system behavior related to:
    • Voltage, current, and power control loops
    • Grid synchronization and islanding detection
    • Dynamic stability and transient response
    • Support performance analysis across a wide range of grid conditions and operating points

Fault & Protection Studies

  • Perform fault and protection studies using time‑domain simulation.
  • Model and analyze:
    • Short‑circuit and fault conditions (AC and DC where applicable)
    • Inverter‑based fault response and current‑limiting behavior
    • SST fault ride‑through and protective actions
  • Support development and validation of:
    • Protection schemes and logic
    • Fault detection thresholds and timing
    • Coordination between SSTs, DERs (where applicable), and utility protection
    • Provide simulation data to support design decisions, protection settings, and utility or internal reviews

HIL (Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop) Simulation Support

  • Work closely with Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop(HIL) teams
  • Adapt and deploy models for real‑time execution in HIL environments
  • Collaborate with controls and test teams to:
    • Validate control firmware against simulated plant models
    • Exercise fault, protection, and corner‑case scenarios safely
    • Correlate HIL results with offline simulations and hardware testing
    • Support debugging and refinement of models based on HIL and lab feedback

Grid Interaction & Standards‑Driven Analysis

  • Simulate grid interaction scenarios relevant to US interconnection expectations, supporting analysis aligned with standards such as:
    • IEEE 1547 / IEEE 1547.1 (as applicable)
    • Provide simulation evidence to support:
    • Design reviews
    • Certification and compliance readiness
    • Utility and customer technical evaluations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in power system or power electronics simulation
  • Strong hands‑on experience with MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, or PSS/E, including:
    • Dynamic system modeling
    • Control system simulation
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Inverter‑based and power‑electronic systems
    • Grid‑connected and islanded power systems
    • Fault behavior and protection fundamentals
  • Ability to create structured, maintainable, and reusable simulation models

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience modeling:
    • SSTs, MV/LV converters, or advanced power conversion systems
    • Microgrids or distribution‑level networks
  • Familiarity with:
    • Simscape Electrical or EMT‑style simulation methods
    • Grid‑forming and grid‑following control concepts
    • Protection philosophy for inverter‑based resources
  • Hands‑on experience with:
    • HIL platforms or real‑time simulation workflows
    • MIL / SIL / HIL development processes
  • Experience supporting protection, fault analysis, or control validation activities for product development or deployment
