Key Responsibilities
- Project Management: Manage highway and transportation projects from planning and design through final delivery, including project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, and deliverables.
- Highway and Roadway Design: Provide technical oversight for highway design, including alignments and profiles, typical sections, cross-sections, roadway improvements, and safety enhancements such as guide rail and median barrier design in accordance with NJTA, NJDOT, and AASHTO standards.
- Client Management: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and transportation agencies. Develop and maintain strong client relationships while communicating project status, priorities, schedules, and budgets.
- Project Coordination: Lead coordination with project managers, engineers, designers, clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, accurately, and within established budgets and schedules.
- Safety Improvements and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic: Oversee the evaluation of existing roadways for safety improvements, including signage and striping. Provide direction on Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) plans and construction staging, including barrier placement, construction signage, and temporary striping.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure project designs and deliverables comply with NJTA, NJDOT, AASHTO, and applicable local transportation agency standards and requirements.
- Project Deliverables and Technical Oversight: Review and oversee the preparation of technical reports, contract plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Provide technical guidance to engineers and design staff throughout the project lifecycle.
- Business Development: Support client development, proposal preparation, scope development, and pursuit of new transportation and highway engineering opportunities.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and provide technical direction to engineers and design staff while helping maintain quality and consistency across project deliverables.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Approximately 15 years of progressive experience in highway design and transportation engineering, with demonstrated experience managing transportation projects.
- Certification/License: Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with roadway design and plan production software. Experience with Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, InRoads/Power InRoads, AutoDesk Civil 3D, or similar CAD/design platforms preferred.
- Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, budgets, schedules, client relationships, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of NJTA, NJDOT, and AASHTO design standards and guidelines.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, agency representatives, project teams, and senior leadership.
