Job Description:

Maintenance Engineer III

Repairs and maintains hospital equipment and buildings

EXPECTATION FOR ALL EMPLOYEES

POSITION SUMMARY

Repairs and maintains hospital equipment and buildings

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Repairs and maintains hospital equipment and the structural condition of the facilities in accordance with hospital standards and other regulatory agency requirements
  • Makes decisions concerning life safety management and utilities management
  • Participates in evaluating, analyzing and projecting the needs of the department
  • Assists in the Quality Assurance program of the department
  • Assists in the training of new employees and participates in a continuing education program to enhance individual skills
  • Performs and evaluates the fire safety program for the facility
  • Assists in the development of new policies and procedures for the department
  • Drives hospital vehicles to pick up supplies and travel between other hospital facilities

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment
  • Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
  • Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
  • Exhibits proficiency in blue print reading and building code interpretation; including knowledge of NFPA 99 and NFPA 101
  • Demonstrates high quality workmanship
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • Completed Maintenance III competencies as set forth by the department
  • Current Oregon Driver’s License
  • High school diploma and/or equivalent required

EXPERIENCE

  • At least four (4) years’ experience in hospital maintenance or related industry as a maintenance engineer.
  • Specific journeyman level skills preferred
  • Experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing problems associated with: nurse call systems, fire protection systems, tube delivery systems, small engines, plumbing, painting, hydraulic cylinders, HVAC systems and refrigeration elevators, electric beds, food service appliances, steam systems, minor electrical equipment, wheelchairs, stretchers, entry/exit hardware, medical gas outlets, fluid pumps, pneumatic controllers, plumbing systems, and other equipment associated with general building maintenance found within a healthcare setting
  • Working knowledge of but not limited to the following: boilers, generators, elevators, pumps, electric motors, hospital firefighting equipment, compressors, drills, grinders, pipe threaders, routers, saws, airflow meters, temperature meters, drain cleaners, scaffolding, lawn and garden tools, pipe benders, welding equipment, various plumbing tools, carpentry and construction tools, pneumatic devices, HVAC equipment, small engines, digital controllers, hand held radios, communication devices, vacuum pumps, medical gas equipment, electric hospital beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, surgical tables, autoclaves, pressure regulators and other equipment associated with building maintenance

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to stand, climb, stoop, bend frequently
  • Requires ability to tolerate exposure to conditions which may include toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heights, high temperatures or confined spaces
  • Able to use the appropriate equipment (forklifts, pulleys, carts etc) and proper body mechanics to lift/move supplies, equipment and push carts and dollies weighing up to 500 lbs.
  • Needs adequate color vision. Must wear protective clothing as required.
  • Able to travel to various locations
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
