Job Description
At Teledyne Marine, we’re shaping the future of ocean exploration and environmental monitoring. Our cutting-edge sensors, instruments and vehicles help solve global challenges—from infrastructure development to energy sourcing and marine safety. If you’re passionate about innovation and want to make a real-world impact, we invite you to join our team of scientists, engineers and operators.
The Mechanical Engineer for Teledyne RD Instruments is responsible for the design, analysis, development, testing and production support of mechanical and electro-mechanical products used in underwater acoustic instrumentation. This role applies advanced mechanical engineering principles to develop robust, pressure-tolerant, corrosion-resistant products capable of operating in demanding oceanographic, naval and commercial marine environments. The engineer serves as a technical contributor throughout the product lifecycle, from concept development through production release and sustaining engineering support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Designs mechanical components, assemblies, housings, mounting structures, pressure vessels, fixtures and underwater deployment hardware
Performs tolerance stack-up analyses, material selection, stress calculations, thermal analyses and structural evaluations
Develops detailed SolidWorks models, engineering drawings, GD&T requirements and manufacturing documentation
Conducts Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate structural integrity under pressure, shock, vibration and environmental loading conditions
Designs products with a focus on manufacturability, reliability, cost optimization, and compliance with internal product requirements and customer specifications (if applicable)
Evaluates sealing methods, corrosion mitigation strategies and material compatibility for subsea applications
Leads prototype development, testing, verification and qualification activities
Supports hydrostatic pressure testing, environmental qualification testing and root cause failure investigations
Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, quality, and external suppliers, to ensure successful transition of product designs into production
Drives corrective actions and design improvements based on manufacturing, field and customer feedback
Supports sustaining engineering efforts for existing ADCP and DVL product lines
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may include providing technical leadership to lower level Engineers.
