Your opportunity

As a Wellbeing Support Worker, you'll support residents through their recovery journey by facilitating daily activities, promoting wellbeing, encouraging independence and helping create a safe, positive and recovery-focused environment.

Join the team at Djindigal (Healing Place), Mission Australia's residential Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) rehabilitation service located near Mareeba. Djindigal provides a safe and supportive environment where adults can address substance use concerns, build life skills and continue their recovery journey.

Working as part of a small and dedicated team, you'll play an important role in creating a positive, recovery-focused environment where people feel supported, respected and empowered to achieve their goals.

We're seeking people who bring a strong understanding of Alcohol and Other Drug recovery and are passionate about supporting people to make meaningful and lasting change.

This role operates across a 7-day rotating roster, offering a mix of day (9:00 am - 5:00 pm), afternoon (12:00 pm - 8:00 pm) and occasional sleepover shifts (10:00 pm - 6:00 am).

Your key responsibilities will be to

  • Support residents through daily wellbeing, recreational and life skills activities.

  • Facilitate group activities and encourage engagement in therapeutic and recovery-focused programs.

  • Provide practical support, coaching and encouragement to help residents achieve their recovery goals.

  • Respond to challenging situations using trauma-informed practice, effective communication and de-escalation skills.

  • Build positive, professional relationships with residents while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming and supportive residential environment that promotes recovery and wellbeing

Requirements for success

  • Experience supporting people affected by Alcohol and Other Drug use is essential.

  • Demonstrated skills in de-escalation, conflict resolution and supporting people experiencing complex behaviours.

  • Strong understanding of person-centred, trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice.

  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and build positive therapeutic relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.

  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate, or willingness to obtain prior to commencement

  • Current Driver's Licence with no restrictions

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.

Your benefits

To ensure our employees feel valued, empowered, and celebrated, we provide a range of employee benefits including:

  • Rewarding work – every day you know you’re making a real difference

  • Free external, confidential counselling and access to chaplaincy support.

  • Volunteering opportunities
