Position: Full time (base salary 40 hours/week) – occasional night or weekend work is part of this role.
Salary Range: $3800–4200 $ CAD bi weekly - based on the candidates experience. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of the total compensation package.

The Opportunity
As a Field Service Technician, you will represent Damen Services Canada Ltd. by providing high‑quality warranty support for one of our key Clients in British Colombia. You will carry out inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities on Damen supplied systems and components. You ensure that the vessel and onboard equipment continue to operate safely, reliably, and in accordance with contractual warranty obligations. You act as the primary technical ambassador on site professional, proactive, and client‑focused while maintaining close communication with our technical teams in Victoria BC and the wider Damen organization.
The ideal candidate for this position is an All-round Marine Engineer, with a background in Electrical installations, who is able to work with limited supervision, able to work after hours when needed, and is able to travel within Canada and abroad. Flexibility and experience are strong requirements.
Key Responsibilities
As Field Service Technician, your main duties will include:
- Perform diagnostic, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance activities on mechanical and electrical systems installed on the client’s vessel(s).
- The Field Engineers can advise or decide on the technical solution and is decisive in the way of working on board or on-site during implementation or execution of a solution.
- Execute warranty inspections, assess equipment condition, and identify root causes of technical issues.
- The Field Engineer is not responsible for costs or budgets but is expected to operate cost aware within given budgets.
- The Field Engineer works independently, or in a team. In this role the Field Service Engineer can technically and or functionally lead up to ca.10 (local) team members or subcontractors.
- Coordinate with Damen’s technical specialists to support problem resolution and warranty decision‑making.
- Prepare service reports, documentation, and follow‑up actions in line with company standards.
- Assist with system adjustments, calibrations, and commissioning‑related tasks as required.
- Provide on‑site guidance and instruction to the Client regarding operation and maintenance best practices.
- Maintain strong customer relations and represent Damen’s values in every interaction.
- Plan and carry out all activities in compliance with the company’s HSSEQ (Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality) standards.
What You Bring
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. French will be a benefit.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks with limited supervision.
- Technical diploma, preferably in Electrical Technician, Mechatronics, Marine Technician, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of ship systems, including troubleshooting, testing, and safety procedures.
- Experience working with mechanical, hydraulic, or control systems is an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant technical experience in field service, marine, industrial, or similar environments.
- Basic electrical and mechanical safety training, including safe work practices around energized and rotating equipment.
Knowledge of the following is beneficial:
- Electrical installations and wiring systems
- Control systems / PLCs
- Mechanical systems (pumps, engines, etc.)
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Safety systems (alarms, detection, ESD systems)
- Inspection, testing, and maintenance procedures
