La Causa, Inc. is seeking a Bilingual Administrative Assistant I (English/Spanish) to provide administrative, clerical, and general office support for the Early Education and Care Center. This position plays an important role in supporting daily program operations, maintaining accurate records, completing required documentation, assisting with communication and translation, and providing administrative support to staff, children, families, and other stakeholders.

Your Role: 

As an Administrative Assistant I, you will provide administrative and clerical support to the Early Education and Care Center and designated staff. You will assist with records management, reporting, correspondence, translation and interpretation, supplies, attendance, data entry, and other administrative functions that support the effective operation of the program.

This is a bilingual position requiring full professional proficiency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal.


What You’ll Do 

  • Provide administrative, clerical, and office support, including reporting equipment problems, attendance reporting, ordering supplies, filing teacher material requests, ProCare auditing, and maintaining accurate program and children’s files.
  • Serve as backup for administrative and clerical support staff and/or other teaching-related positions as needed and directed.
  • Compose, type, and distribute correspondence in English and Spanish.
  • Provide written and oral translation and interpretation in English and Spanish as needed.
  • Update program materials, make copies, organize documents, and maintain appropriate filing systems.
  • Complete, collect, and submit required information and documentation by established deadlines, including enrollment numbers, reports, data, and other program requirements.
  • Assist with student recruitment, retention, and fundraising activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication, collaboration, and cooperation with children, families, staff, participants, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records in accordance with program and agency requirements.
  • Follow all legal, organizational, contractual, licensing, and program requirements, laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Fulfill mandated reporter responsibilities regarding suspected child abuse in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as requested.
  • Provide training or support to individuals participating in work experience or training programs, as assigned.
  • Contribute as an active and supportive team member.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Minimum of High School Diploma/GED.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional secretarial, clerical, or reception experience required.
  • Must have successfully completed Intro to the Children’s Profession, Skills & Strategies for the Child Care Teacher, and Fundamentals of Infant & Toddler.
  • Bilingual Spanish and English proficiency required, with full professional proficiency in both oral and written communication.
  • Strong cultural competency and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals across multiple functional areas, levels, linguistic backgrounds, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent critical-thinking skills, including the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience using the Microsoft Office Suite, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on program needs.
  • Reliable transportation, valid Wisconsin driver’s license, state minimum auto insurance, and ability to meet La Causa, Inc. driving standards.
  • Must be eligible to work near children in accordance with applicable Wisconsin state licensing requirements.
  • Must successfully complete and pass all required background checks, including, but not limited to, criminal history, TB testing, and physical examination, as applicable

Work Environment: 

  • Work is primarily performed in an office and early education/day care environment.
  • Flexible hours may be required based on program needs.
  • Regular interaction with children, families, staff, participants, and other stakeholders is required.
  • Position may require occasional evenings and weekends based on program needs.

Physical Demands: 

  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, reach, stoop, bend, and walk. Infrequent lifting may be required.
