Responsibilities
The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible and accountable for the delivery of patient care under the direction of a RN. She/he implements Wound Healing Center standards of care and practice consistent with Nursing Service standards, as appropriate to the ages of patients served.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in systematic data collection as a basis for the identification of patient needs.
- Provides goal-directed nursing care following the established plans of care.
- Participates in the observation of patient responses and contributes data to the care plan revision.
- Documents data collection, interventions and patient responses per policy.
- Assists in patient/significant other instruction in accordance with established standards.
- Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patients’ rights. Maintains dignity and confidentiality of the patient.
- Cooperates with other health care disciplines in the coordination of patient care activities.
- Maintains effective communication with staff, physicians, patients and families, also within the department and with other departments.
- Delegates tasks appropriately and is accountable for her/his practice within the scope of the LPN role.
- Adheres to the department’s standards of practice.
- Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.
- Maintains cooperative working relationships and provides support to other department staff.
- Demonstrates competence in nursing care practices and performs technical skills appropriate to the department and needs of the patient population served.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff, applies appropriate precautions and protocols.
- Identifies major changes in patients’ condition and basic patient care needs, institutes appropriate interventions per policy or refers accordingly.
- Participates in the orientation of personnel to the department.
- Utilizes opportunities for clinical learning and participates in continuing education to meet established requirements and for own career development.
Qualifications
• Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.• Minimum 1 year experience in acute care setting.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Demonstrates good verbal and interpersonal skills.
