Position Overview

TechServ is seeking experienced Engineering Technicians / Designers to join our Electrical Distribution team. The ideal candidates will have previous experience designing electric utility distribution systems and hands-on experience working with Maximo, DDS, and SPIDAcalc.

In this role, you will use your existing distribution design knowledge to develop accurate, high-quality designs for new construction, system improvements, upgrades, and redevelopment projects. You will work closely with Project Coordinators, Engineers, and other Designers throughout various phases of projects, including field evaluation, design, analysis, construction documentation, and project closeout.

Candidates should be comfortable working independently on assigned projects while collaborating with the broader project team to meet client standards, schedules, and quality expectations.

Travel to regional job sites may be required approximately 20% of the time.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Under general supervision, you will:

• Develop electrical distribution designs in accordance with client standards, specifications, and applicable design requirements

• Utilize Maximo, DDS, and SPIDAcalc to support distribution design, project documentation, pole loading analysis, and project workflow

• Prepare designs for new construction, system upgrades, relocations, rebuilds, and other electrical distribution projects

• Review field data and existing utility infrastructure to develop accurate and constructible designs

• Analyze reports, drawings, field information, and project requirements to plan and design distribution projects

• Perform and review pole loading calculations using SPIDAcalc

• Create, revise, and maintain design drawings, sketches, redlines, and markups

• Interpret and apply utility standards, design codes, specifications, and construction requirements

• Determine appropriate equipment, materials, and construction requirements based on project scope and client standards

• Review design packages for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and quality

• Ensure assigned projects remain within established scope, budget, and schedule

• Maintain accurate project information and documentation within Maximo and other applicable project management systems

• Coordinate with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Engineers, field personnel, and other Designers

• Complete assigned projects within budgeted hours and established deadlines

• Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews as needed

• Travel to regional job sites in accordance with client and project requirements

Qualifications and Skills

• Previous experience designing electrical distribution systems is required

• Hands-on experience with Maximo, DDS, and SPIDAcalc is strongly preferred

• Working knowledge of overhead and/or underground electrical distribution systems

• Experience interpreting utility standards, construction drawings, field notes, and design specifications

• Experience completing pole loading analysis and calculations using SPIDAcalc

• Ability to develop accurate, constructible distribution designs with limited supervision

• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other utility design/drafting software is preferred

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams

• Ability to collaborate effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, Project Coordinators, field personnel, and other Designers

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education and Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required

• Associate's Degree in Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred, but not required

• Previous professional electrical distribution design experience required

• Experience using Maximo, DDS, and SPIDAcalc preferred

• Utility, engineering consulting, or electric distribution industry experience strongly preferred

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel
