ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Financial Evaluator plays an important role in helping the Court determine an individual’s ability to pay or reimburse Court-assessed costs, including attorney fees, program fees, victim restitution and criminal fines. In this position, you’ll conduct interviews, gather and analyze financial information, and provide findings to the Court. The role involves assisting with collection efforts, monitoring delinquent accounts, and responding to questions from defendants, responsible parties, attorneys, Court staff, and members of the public. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who can work with sensitive financial information, apply Court policies and procedures, and communicate with professionalism and discretion.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct financial evaluations, interviews, and investigations to determine ability to pay Court-assessed costs.
- Analyze financial records and information and prepare findings, agreements, forms, and reports for the Court.
- Establish payment plans in accordance with Court policies and procedures.
- Monitor accounts, identify delinquent payments, and assist with collection and cost recovery efforts.
- Provide customer service and support to defendants, responsible parties, attorneys, Court staff, and the public regarding payments and account status.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all the following requirements at the final filing date of this bulletin:
Graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent -AND- at least two (2) years of experience performing financial evaluations and assessments of ability to pay.

Note: Credit for experience is based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a pro rate basis (e.g. working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience). Overtime does not count toward additional credit.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, external departments, and outside agencies.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of Court and State financial and budget policies, practices, and procedures.
- Experience with financial management systems, determining ability to pay, or debt collections.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
