Role Summary:

The Senior Director, Lung Strategy is a senior leader within the Oncology vertical, part of the Global Commercial Strategy organization, reporting to the Senior Director Team Leader Thoracic, GI and 4404 Strategy Lead, Oncology. This role will lead the development of a holistic lung cancer strategy focused on commercial assessment and portfolio strategy. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining integrated disease-area and portfolio strategies, shaping early commercial assessments, and providing senior commercial leadership to support investment decisions, clinical development choices, lifecycle opportunities, and external innovation assessments across priority assets in lung cancer.

The Oncology portfolio represents a significant opportunity to advance Pfizer's ambition to deliver breakthrough therapies for patients with cancer and related serious conditions. This role will contribute to that ambition by leading lung cancer early commercial and portfolio strategy, shaping disciplined portfolio choices, evidence-informed investment decisions, and early commercial planning across high-value pipeline, lifecycle, and external innovation opportunities.

The Senior Director will partner closely with R&D, Medical Affairs, Global Access Strategy & Pricing (GASP), Global Commercial Analytics (GCA), Competitive Intelligence, Regulatory, Business Development, US, Global and International Commercial / Marketing teams, and other enterprise stakeholders to translate scientific, clinical, market, access, and competitive insights into clear portfolio recommendations. This role is focused on early commercial strategy, disease-area portfolio strategy, and decision support. The Senior Director will help advance disciplined trade-off decisions, long-range portfolio thinking, and AI-enabled ways of working that support patient impact and enterprise value realization for the Oncology portfolio.

Responsibilities:

Lung Cancer Portfolio Strategy and Long-Range Planning:

  • Lead development and ongoing refinement of integrated lung cancer commercial and portfolio strategies, spanning early pipeline assets, lifecycle opportunities, external innovation, and emerging disease-area opportunities.
  • Establish a holistic view of near-, mid-, and long-term opportunities, including disease-area priorities, asset-level implications, portfolio sequencing, and strategic trade-offs.
  • Synthesize scientific, clinical, commercial, access, competitive, and patient insights to inform portfolio priorities and differentiated value creation opportunities.
  • Translate portfolio strategy into clear recommendations, implications, and decision materials for leadership, governance forums, and cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor shifts in the lung scientific and competitive landscape to identify emerging trends, risks, development opportunities, and potential implications for Pfizer Oncology strategy.

Early Commercial Assessment and Asset Strategy:

  • Lead and guide early commercial assessments for lung cancer pipeline assets, indications, mechanisms, disease-area opportunities, and lifecycle programs.
  • Oversee development and refinement of product concepts, target product profile input, positioning hypotheses, market archetypes, and commercial opportunity assessments.
  • Translate unmet need, standard of care, competitive dynamics, biomarker and treatment pathway considerations, patient/HCP insights, andaccess requirements into differentiated commercial hypotheses.
  • Provide senior commercial input to clinical development, evidence generation, indication sequencing, lifecycle strategy, and launch-readiness discussions in partnership with cross-functional colleagues.
  • Identify key value drivers, risks, uncertainties, and evidence needs that may influence future launch potential, asset differentiation, and portfolio value.

Business Development and External Innovation Support:

  • Serve as a senior commercial strategy partner for Business Development and external innovation opportunities relevant to lung cancer oncology priorities.
  • Lead or oversee commercial opportunity assessments, valuation inputs, market-sizing assumptions, competitive scenarios, and strategic fit evaluations for potential internal or external assets.
  • Partner with Business Development, R&D, GCA, GASP, Competitive Intelligence, Medical Affairs, and Regulatory colleagues to pressure-test assumptions and identify key decision points.
  • Represent the lung cancer commercial perspective in discussions related to external innovation, asset valuations, launch strategies, and long-term value creation.
  • Develop clear, executive-ready materials that communicate commercial opportunity, strategic rationale, risks, uncertainties, and portfolio implications.

Cross-Functional Leadership and Governance:

  • Lead and influence complex, matrixed cross-functional teams across R&D, Medical Affairs, GAV, GCA, Competitive Intelligence, Business Development, Regulatory, and Commercial Regions.
  • Partner with senior Oncology leaders to ensure a strong commercial voice is incorporated into portfolio, early development, investment, and lifecycle decisions.
  • Support preparation for governance forums, portfolio reviews, strategy discussions, development decision points, and investment prioritization meetings.
  • Build trusted working relationships across global, regional, and local stakeholders to align on strategic choices, assumptions, implications, and execution priorities.
  • Provide senior leadership to ensure lung strategies are integrated across disease-area, asset, launch, access, and regional considerations.

Matrix Team Leadership and Talent Development:

  • Set clear priorities, accountabilities, and ways of working, ensuring high-quality strategic outputs and strong partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Create an environment of accountability, collaboration, learning, and enterprise thinking, while modeling Pfizer values and fostering a high-performing team culture.
  • Develop team capability in scientific and competitive landscape assessment, early commercial strategy, portfolio decision support, business case development, and executive communication.

AI-Enabled Ways of Working:

  • Use AI-enabled tools to support scientific and competitive landscape synthesis, market insight generation, scenario development, portfolio analysis, and strategy workstream efficiency.
  • Apply AI-augmented approaches to accelerate analysis, identify patterns across complex data sources, and improve quality and consistency of strategic outputs.
  • Champion responsible, compliant AI-enabled ways of working across lung early commercial strategy, portfolio assessment, and decision-support processes.
  • Build team capability and confidence in AI-enabled strategy development, synthesis, and commercial decision support.
  • Stay current on emerging tools and practices that can strengthen portfolio strategy, commercial development, and launch-readiness decision-making.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 12+ years of successful, progressive experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, commercial development, marketing, portfolio strategy, business development, market research, forecasting, analytics, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams, across levels in a complex matrixed environment.
  • Strong understanding of oncology drug development, commercial development, launch strategy, lifecycle planning, and portfolio decision-making.
  • Experience developing long-range strategies for products, disease areas, or portfolios and translating complex inputs into clear recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills, with ability to synthesize scientific, clinical, market, access, patient, and competitive information into actionable commercial implications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence senior stakeholders, and build alignment without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, organizational, and executive-ready storytelling skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in business, life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, public health, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in Oncology, Thoracic oncology, specialty care, biologics, small molecules, antibody-drug conjugates, multispecific antibodies, or other complex therapeutic areas preferred.
  • Experience with early commercial strategy, commercial development, portfolio management, corporate strategy, forecasting, market research, or Business Development assessments.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand scientific and clinical data and translate implications for commercial opportunity, differentiation, development strategy, and portfolio value.
  • Experience developing product concepts, market assessments, forecasts, business cases, investment rationales, strategic options, or governance materials for senior decision-makers.
  • Understanding of market access dynamics, payer considerations, evidence generation, value demonstration, launch sequencing, and global-to-local commercialization considerations.
  • Comfort operating in an AI-enabled or AI-augmented environment; experience using AI tools to support strategy, synthesis, scenario planning, or analysis is a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity, make decisions and recommendations with incomplete information, and lead teams through evolving portfolio priorities.
  • Discretion, sound judgment, and trustworthiness in handling confidential or sensitive organizational matters.

Work Location Assignment: On Premise

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $214,900.00 to $358,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 22.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
