Exciting new opportunity at Rhode Island Hospital!

Join the Continuous Monitoring Unit (CMU) as a Telemetry Monitor Technician!  Located at 79 Plain Street in Providence, RI, this day position is full-time at 36 hours per week.

The Telemetry Monitor Technician at Brown University Health is responsible for the continuous observation, analysis, and interpretation of cardiac rhythms. Collaborates with health care team to initiate, monitor, and communicate findings during telemetry monitoring patients at risk of harm due to medical conditions. This role supports high-quality, patient-centered care by promptly recognizing and identifying changes in cardiac rhythms or patient status and communicating the changes to the clinical team. Initiates code and rapid response teams for patients at risk of death or serious harm. The telemetry monitor technician ensures patient safety and operational excellence. The Telemetry Monitor Technician maintains accurate documentation, contributes to efficient workflows, and maintains inventory of equipment including storage, cleaning, troubleshooting and associated telemetry needs. The Monitor Technician demonstrates a commitment to patient centered care, safety, quality, and service excellence. The role collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary teams and contributes to a culture of accountability, respect and teamwork.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for understanding patient information related to current cardiac rhythm status and applicable vital signs, optimal cardiac rhythm status and vital signs, and prior variances/alarms.

  • Maintain awareness of assigned patients’ medical history, medications, and code status to support accurate monitoring and escalation.

  • Continuously monitors patient telemetry including cardiac rhythms, blood pressure, SpO2 reading, respiratory rate, Co2 level and additional vital signs depending on acuity level.

  • Obtains, interprets, and accurately documents rhythm strips as determined by policy, orders, or the healthcare team and with changes in patient condition.

  • Recognizes, documents, and communicates changes or abnormalities promptly to healthcare team including cardiac rhythms and/or applicable vital signs being monitored.

  • Provide timely communication of monitoring data and summaries to the healthcare team

  • Support the maintenance and troubleshooting of monitoring equipment to ensure reliability and performance.

  • Perform all responsibilities in alignment with organizational values, policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of care.

  • Admits, transfers, and discharges patients and enters all required information in the telemetry monitoring system.

  • Acts as preceptor and mentor to new monitor technicians.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Works in a clinical environment requiring frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

  • Requires strong visual acuity, including color differentiation, and auditory ability for monitoring interpretation.

  • Demonstrates manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for equipment use.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Completion of ECG interpretation training or equivalent on-the-job competency validation.

  • Demonstrated ability to recognize critical rhythms and abnormalities.

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a clinical monitoring or patient care setting.

  • Additional healthcare-related education or certification preferred.

Pay Range:

$18.04-$28.46
