This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.

NATURE OF WORK 
Under general supervision, performs library work of moderate difficulty in one of the divisions of a branch library and acts as lead worker for some library staff. This position has department specific responsibility. Hours may vary (Monday – Saturday) depending on the needs of the Library District.
(Illustrative Only) Assists with the supervision, trains, and coordinates the functions of the assigned staff and volunteers; provides training, instruction, and Sirsi procedures; drafts periodicals procedures; provides services at the public service desk; receives, processes and shelves materials; instructs patrons in the use of computer and media equipment and resources; provides assistance with reference and research services; plans, develops, and implement programs, provides computer classes, and book discussion groups; creates and maintains seasonal displays; collects, tracks and prepares reports or extracts from the computer or data; responsible in checking materials in and out, handles fees and fines, issues library cards, and shelves books and materials; assists patrons with their needs; responds to complaints; organizes and conducts library programs and activities; may promote public library services to the local community; develops, conducts and records virtual programming (i.e. story time, crafts, robotics, STEAM programming and emerging technology.) may be assigned to work in other library branches and divisions;  maintains automated and manual files; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; and sixty semester hours of college course work; OR Library Technical Assistant (LTA) Certificate and two years working in a library; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; must possess or have the ability to obtain a fingerprint Clearance Card.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred in some Library branches; requires successful completion of a background check; must possess and maintain valid Arizona driver’s license.

Knowledge of: Yuma County and Department policies and procedures and functions; techniques of library operations; Dewey Decimal System; children’s services as practiced in public libraries; books and authors; principles and practices of supervision.

Skill in: Assigning and reviewing work performance of others; using office machines, and automated systems; business English, spelling and arithmetic; providing effective customer-oriented service; handling irate patrons and tense situations; communicating verbally and in writing; following written instructions; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public, training.

Ability to: Effectively respond to phone calls, emails and complaints in a timely manner; plan, prioritizes, manages and responds to multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment; read, write, research, synthesizes data and detailed reports; use modern office equipment and computers; assigning and leading the work of others; communicate effectively verbally and written; lift up to 5 – 25 lbs; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.  

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity; generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing; working at a computer monitor for extended periods required; the job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment and may have risk of exposure to communicable diseases.
