Role Summary

As an Instructional Designer Manager, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of learning solutions that support organizational goals while managing and developing a team of instructional designers. You will partner with stakeholders across the bank to understand learning needs, influence solution design, and ensure successful delivery of high-quality learning experiences. In addition to overseeing learning projects, you will provide leadership, coaching, and direction to team members, drive process improvements, and champion innovative approaches that enhance both learning outcomes and team effectiveness. Working in a global environment, you will balance strategic priorities, stakeholder expectations, and operational delivery while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of instructional designers through coaching, feedback, and performance management.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture that encourages knowledge sharing, accountability, and innovation.

  • Build trusted stakeholder relationships, influence learning decisions, and negotiate scope, timelines, and solutions to achieve business objectives.

  • Oversee the successful delivery of multiple learning initiatives, ensuring resources, timelines, quality standards, and business expectations are effectively managed.

  • Lead resource planning, project assignments, and workload balancing to ensure effective utilization of team capacity and successful delivery of learning initiatives.

  • Use data, metrics, and feedback to drive decisions and continuously improve team performance and learning outcomes.

  • Champion the adoption of emerging learning technologies, AI-enabled tools, and innovative ways of working to improve team effectiveness and learning impact.

  • Apply instructional design and adult learning principles to create learning objectives, assessments, and learning experiences that support business and learner needs.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience leading and developing teams of instructional designers in a fast-paced, global environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, performance management, and fostering high-performing teams.

  • Strong influencing, negotiation, consultative, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility and drive alignment across diverse stakeholder groups.

  • Proven ability to make sound decisions, manage ambiguity, and proactively resolve challenges with limited direction.

  • Proven experience applying instructional design and adult learning principles to design and develop effective learning solutions.

  • Strong research, comprehension, and analytical skills, with the ability to learn unfamiliar topics, identify content gaps, and work effectively with incomplete information.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, and engaging learning content.

  • Strong experience with Articulate Storyline, Rise, and other learning development tools, with the ability to guide and review the work of instructional designers.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience implementing or leveraging AI-enabled tools within learning design and development workflows.

  • Experience managing vendor relationships and localization initiatives.

  • Experience working in highly regulated or financial services environments.

  • Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design principles.

  • Certification in project management, people leadership, instructional design, or learning technologies is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), and SCORM standards, with a commitment to continuous learning and technology adoption.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, adult education, learning & development, education, communications, or a related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in instructional design, eLearning development, learning experience design, or a related discipline, including experience leading complex learning initiatives.

  • 3+ years of experience leading, coaching, and developing instructional design teams.

  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects, stakeholders, resources, and competing priorities.
