Description
About Giga
Giga is building gigawatts of AI data centers to hasten a future of intelligence and abundance. We build data centers fast and at scale by combining the capabilities of an equipment supplier, engineering firm, general contractor, and real estate developer under one roof. Our team moves quickly and thinks practically. If you're ready to make an impact in an industry that matters, we're looking for people like you.
Why join Giga
- The Pace: We're building at a speed most companies talk about but never actually operate at. If you've been bored somewhere else, you won't be here.
- The Impact: Every person at Giga touches the work that matters. No layers, no waiting for approval chains. You'll see your fingerprints on what we ship.
- The Team: A team of operators defining the future of AI infrastructure. We recruit A-players from the most innovative companies in the world, and they choose Giga because the work here means more.
- The Moment: AI doesn't run without power, and that's us. Giga is the picks and shovels behind the AI revolution. This industry is about to explode, and you'll be in the room where it's already happening.
What you'll do
As a BIM Designer, Mechanical, you’ll develop and coordinate mechanical systems models (ductwork, hydronic piping, and equipment layouts) across our AI data center and industrial construction portfolio. You'll translate engineering markups and design criteria into fully coordinated, constructible Revit models, applying real mechanical engineering judgment rather than just drafting what you're told. This role sits inside our growing BIM function, working shoulder-to-shoulder with electrical, structural, and civil designers to keep one federated model as the single source of truth from design through fabrication and field support.
Where you'll work
We are an in-office culture — velocity matters when you're building physical infrastructure, and the best decisions happen in the room. This role is ideally based in our San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston offices, with full-time onsite expectations outside of bi-weekly WFH Fridays.
That said, we will make exceptions for truly exceptional talent if you live outside one of our hubs. If you're the right person for this role, we'll have a conversation about what works.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical system models in Revit from engineering markups, sketches, and design criteria, including ductwork, hydronic piping, and mechanical equipment layouts
- Size ductwork and piping based on airflow, velocity, pressure drop, and equipment requirements, applying sound engineering judgment when every detail isn't fully specified
- Produce mechanical plans, sections, details, and schedules directly from coordinated BIM models
- Proactively coordinate mechanical systems with structural, architectural, electrical, plumbing, and controls disciplines
- Run and participate in Navisworks clash detection, investigating root causes and driving resolutions rather than just flagging conflicts
- Track coordination issues through closure and ensure resolved changes are incorporated into the model
- Maintain model accuracy, organization, and compliance with Giga's BIM standards
- Support construction and field teams by resolving mechanical routing and coordination questions, incorporating field conditions into the model
- Perform quality-control reviews of mechanical models and drawings to catch errors and coordination gaps before release
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience developing mechanical systems in Autodesk Revit
- Strong experience modeling HVAC ductwork, hydronic piping systems, and mechanical equipment layouts
- Working knowledge of duct and pipe sizing, airflow, velocity, and pressure-drop criteria
- Demonstrated ability to take engineering markups and independently develop a complete mechanical layout
- Experience coordinating mechanical systems across architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing disciplines, including identifying and resolving BIM clashes
- Strong attention to detail and clear written and verbal communication skills
Bonus points
- Experience designing mechanical systems for data centers, mission-critical, or other technically complex industrial facilities
- Familiarity with high-density data center cooling and liquid cooling infrastructure
- Experience with Navisworks Manage, Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360, and clash detection workflows
- Familiarity with ASHRAE standards and mechanical codes
- Experience supporting projects through construction and resolving field coordination issues
Benefits
- Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance
- Equity (options) in a rapidly growing startup
- 401(k) with 4% employer match
- Unlimited PTO
- Parental leave
- Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Commuter benefits
- Team on-sites where all offices come in–person to collaborate
Who we hire
We hire people who thrive in chaos and get sharper under pressure. You don't wait to be told what to do, you spot the gap and fill it. When there's work to be done, you do it. You make decisions with the information you have, move fast, and adjust along the way. We're not looking for perfect; we're looking for people who get things done.
