Description
The CTO Communications team is looking for an experienced Communications Expert to help shape, strengthen and deliver strategic communications across ING’s global Technology organisation. This is a role for someone who can think strategically, write with clarity and confidence, and translate complex technology topics into messages that are easy to understand, relevant and engaging for global audiences. From internal leadership communications to external speaking opportunities, the role will help bring ING’s technology strategy to life in a way that connects with engineers, leaders, business stakeholders and external audiences. You will play an important role in supporting Technology leaders, by preparing high-quality messaging, presentations, speeches, talking points and communications plans. You will also help ensure that global and strategic messages reach the right audiences across Tech, in the right format, through the right channels. You will bring clarity, structure and energy to communications that help people understand where Technology is heading, why it matters and how they connect to it.
This is a cross-border, cross-functional role that requires strong judgement, cultural awareness and the ability to work confidently in a fast-moving, international environment.
The team
As CTO Communications Expert, you will join the CTO Communications team, which is part of ING’s Global Communications, Brand & MarCom department. The team supports communications across the global organisation, helping to build awareness, understanding and engagement around ING’s technology strategy, priorities and leadership agenda.
The team works closely with senior Technology leaders, global communications colleagues, business partners and stakeholders across functions and geographies. Together, we help make complex topics accessible, connect global teams to strategic priorities, and strengthen the voice of Technology across ING.
Role and responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for helping shape and deliver clear, strategic and engaging communications for the CTO domain. Your responsibilities will include:
- Strategic communications planning - Develop and implement communications plans that support the CTO agenda, global Technology priorities and key strategic initiatives. Ensure communications are audience-led, business-relevant and measurable.
- External communications and speaker preparation - Support external speaking engagements by preparing compelling narratives, speeches, presentation storylines, briefing materials and key messages. Ensure external communications reflect ING’s strategic positioning and are suitable for senior audiences, industry platforms and technology-focused events.
- Technology storytelling - Take complex IT, engineering, cyber, infrastructure, data, AI and digital transformation topics and turn them into clear, accessible and engaging content for global audiences. Bring structure, simplicity and relevance to topics that can otherwise feel technical or abstract.
- Audience engagement across Technology - Understand the needs, interests and expectations of technology audiences, including engineers, experts, leaders and global teams. Ensure strategic messages land effectively across Technology and are translated into content that feels meaningful, practical and relevant.
- Content development and channel activation - Create and coordinate high-quality content across a range of internal and external channels, including presentations, speeches, intranet stories, newsletters, leadership updates, event materials, video scripts and social content where relevant.
- Stakeholder management - Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across Technology, Communications, Brand, MarCom and other global functions. Work confidently with C-suite leaders and their teams, providing constructive challenge and trusted communications advice.
- Cross-border collaboration - Work effectively across countries, cultures and time zones, ensuring communications reflect ING’s global context and resonate across different markets and audiences.
- Measurement and continuous improvement - Use insights, feedback and performance data to improve communications impact, refine messages and strengthen how the CTO agenda is understood across the organisation.
- Personal development - Pursue development reflected in individual development plans and leverage departmental training opportunities
Required skills and capabilities
We are looking for someone who brings a strong mix of strategic thinking, excellent writing skills, technology understanding and senior stakeholder management experience.
You should have:
A degree-level qualification, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Reputation Management or a related field.
Fluent in English, both spoken and writing
Around 7 to 8 years of experience in a comparable communications role, ideally in an international organisation with a large and diverse stakeholder environment.
Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to connect communications activity to business priorities, leadership agendas and organisational outcomes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear, engaging and audience-focused content for global audiences.
Proven experience translating complex technology or IT topics into simple, human and compelling messages for non-specialist audiences.
A strong understanding of technology audiences, including engineers, IT experts, digital teams and senior technology leaders.
Experience supporting external communications, including preparing speeches, presentations, talking points and briefing materials for our speakers.
Strong C-suite stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise, challenge and partner with senior leaders.
Experience working across cultures, countries and functions, with the sensitivity and judgement needed in a global organisation.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and stakeholders at the same time.
A proactive and collaborative mindset, with the ability to work independently while staying closely connected to team priorities.
Strong editorial judgement, with the ability to shape messages that are clear, credible, strategic and appropriate for the audience.
