The Senior Certified Security Officer provides a valuable resource of information and service for patients, visitors, and the staff at the hospital.
The Senior Certified Security Officer is responsible for performing security duties, respond to all security alerts, fires, and disasters (i.e., Disasters Levels I, II, III, and IV, etc.). The core responsibility is to protect staff, visitors, patients, and property according to policy and procedures.
As a subject matter expert, will organize and conduct fire drills, take lead on performance of hazardous material / decontamination efforts, training new staff members, and system administration duties.
Participate in quality assurance activities for the department, including: review of shift reports for quality and accuracy, performance of follow-up investigations of serious events and incidents, preparation of monthly security statistics reports.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patrols hospital property to ensure the safety for patients, visitors, employees, etc.
Take the lead role in controlling persons (patients and/or visitors) exhibiting aggressive and/or violent behavior.
Independently investigates security related incidents and writes detailed reports.
Documents and maintains a daily report of activities.
Locks and unlocks various buildings around the hospital campus.
Responsible for being part of the fire and disaster response teams.
Responsible for organizing and conducting fire drills.
Enforces the hospital parking policy.
Demonstrates competence, as a member of the security alert team, in responding to agitation/ violent behavior of an individual requiring verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraints.
Consistently display a professional, helpful, and positive attitude when dealing with all internal and external customers.
Must obey and adhere to all motor vehicle regulations and laws while operating hospital vehicles.
Leads performance of hazardous patient decontamination procedures. Identifies hazards, selects proper personal protective equipment (including respiratory protection) sets up appropriate decontamination systems, removes contaminated clothing from patients, and contains contaminated wastes for proper disposal.
Responsible for providing on-the-job training/education to new members of the Security team.
Performs shift lead responsibilities when applicable, per campus, per shift.
Become an instructor for “Management of Aggressive Behavior” (MOAB) training.
Assigned as a system administrator for access control, alarm systems, security cameras, report writing, and other technologies acquired by the department.
Completes audits and inventory of safety, security, and emergency management supplies as assigned.
Performs quality assurance checks of all officer activity, including completion of special assignment, posts, and regular shift activities. Assures staff on duty are properly deployed and prohibits congregating.
Develops the report writing skills of all officers. Performs quality assurance reviews of patrol logs submitted by staff. Prepares and submits monthly security statistics report.
Participates in customer satisfaction initiatives. Ensures on duty staff are using proper customer service skills, answers call bells, ensures telephone etiquette.
If applicable to the entity, subject matter expert for the “parking enforcement technology”. Performs system administrator duties and trains others.
Will assist with scheduling, as assigned.
Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.
Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes, and practices.
Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
Other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Individual must be able to meet established specific physical requirements of the job; sitting for up to eight (8) hour/day, four (4) hour at a time; standing for up to eight (8) hours/day, 4 hours at a time, and walking for up to eight (8) hours/day, 4 hours at a time. Frequent handling and firm griping in moving equipment. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and walking of objects weighing in excess of 200 pounds with assistance if needed. Occasional stooping/bending, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general vision and color vision, and depth perception.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent certificate (G.E.D.) required.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
Current SLUHN employee must have a minimum of three (3) years of Certified Protection Officer experience and Completion of a law enforcement, corrections, or fire academy program, military bootcamp (or equivalent), PA Act 235, active NJ SORA (or other state equivalent), or an associate degree or higher in a related field.
External applicants, which include applicants who are current SLUHN employees external to the Security Department, may be eligible for this position with a minimum of 5 years of law enforcement, corrections, or military experience, or with 5 years’ experience in healthcare and Completion of a law enforcement, corrections, or fire academy program, military bootcamp (or equivalent), PA Act 235, active NJ SORA (or other state equivalent), or an associate degree or higher in a related field.
International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS):
Current SLUHN employee – active IAHSS Supervisor Certification required.
External candidates must complete within 1 year of hire.
Current First Receiver – Operations Level Hazardous Material Certification, required. External candidates must complete within 1 year of hire.
Must maintain a valid driver's license accepted by the Network insurance carrier and a good driving record.
Must possess Microsoft Office computer skills and demonstrate incident investigation and report writing ability.
Preferred:
Prior security or healthcare experience and customer service skills
PA Act 235, active NJ SORA, or other state equivalent, preferred.
Law enforcement, corrections, military experience, or bachelor's degree or higher in a related field preferred.
O-CAT (Pepper Spray) equivalent certification.
Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) certification.
Other related safety, security, emergency management certifications (ex. CHSP, CHPA, CHEP, CEM, AEM, etc.), or OSHA 30 hours.
