Description
Bluegrass Digital is looking for a proactive, commercially minded Business Development Representative to create qualified new-business opportunities for our technology talent solutions and staff augmentation services.
The role focuses on identifying organisations that require additional software development capacity, need individual technology contractors, specialist skills or flexible development teams to support projects, address skills shortages or increase delivery capacity. You will do this by researching the relevant decision-makers, conducting outbound prospecting and arranging qualified client meetings.
You will research target accounts, identify relevant decision-makers, conduct personalised outbound prospecting and arrange qualified introductory meetings for our commercial team.
This is a business development role, not a recruitment or senior solution-sales position. Success requires confident telephone engagement, strong research skills and disciplined follow-up.
Who we are
Founded in 1999, Bluegrass Digital is a software development company based in Cape Town, working with local and international clients.
We design and build digital products and platforms for organisations ranging from funded start-ups to large global enterprises. Our solutions use modern, secure and scalable technologies.
Our core practices include mobile applications, web and software application development, digital experience and content management platforms, cloud services, managed services and technology talent solutions. Our teams include UX and Design, Business Analysis, Project Management, Software Development, Quality Assurance and DevOps.
Key responsibilities include
- Research prospective clients and target accounts.
- Identify technology, engineering, digital, delivery, procurement and talent decision-makers.
- Generate leads through telephone calls, personalised emails, LinkedIn outreach, networking and events.
- Identify organisations requiring development contractors, specialist skills or additional delivery capacity.
- Conduct initial qualification to understand the requirement, timing and decision process.
- Arrange qualified meetings for the Managing Director or Talent Solutions team.
- Follow up with prospects and nurture longer-term opportunities.
- Re-engage former clients and dormant prospects.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, activities and next actions.
- Report on meetings, opportunities, conversions and pipeline generated.
Required Experience
- 3 years’ experience or more in B2B business development, outbound sales or lead generation.
- Proven experience researching target accounts and independently generating leads.
- Confidence approaching senior decision-makers by telephone, email and LinkedIn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Consistent follow-up and good organisational discipline.
- Experience using a CRM such as Pipedrive, HubSpot, Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Comfortable working towards meeting, opportunity and pipeline targets.
Experience in technology staffing, IT contracting, staff augmentation, software development or technology professional services is strongly preferred.
Technology Knowledge
- How software development teams are structured.
- Common development, QA, DevOps, Cloud, product and delivery roles.
- Why organisations use contractors and augmented development teams.
- The difference between permanent recruitment, contracting and staff augmentation.
- Common client challenges involving skills shortages, project deadlines and additional delivery capacity.
What success looks like
Success will be measured by:
- Relevant target accounts and decision-makers identified.
- Meaningful prospect conversations initiated.
- Qualified client meetings held.
- Contractor and staff augmentation requirements generated.
- Qualified pipeline created.
- New clients and placements resulting from your outreach.
- Accurate CRM records and consistent follow-up.
The role includes a performance incentive linked to qualified opportunities and commercial results, not simply the number of calls made or meetings booked.
